Springs are cheap as and it'll take you no time at all to chuck some extra or heavier ones in. Upgrading the gate is for flow and back pressure reasons, not raising the boost level. In saying that a new gate will bring the design benefits, along with possibly less worn parts and as you mentioned, new springs are easier to get.
