Total Newby here,

Odd question, but am thinking of picking up an ex work 2011 XR6T for my wife (only $8K with 100K on it).

I'm just worried about how much power it has and was wondering if there is any bolt on device that can reduce power / response while she drives it but can then be switched back when I jump in. Was thinking something like a pedal max...but not sure they go down on response, only up?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

Lol she's a human being, she'll get used to the stock power haha.

But if you're desperate, you can get a rev limited tune (often called a valet tune) and flash it in when you need her to drive it (or flash the factory tune for you) etc.

Should be fine if its a stocker. The throttle progression is pretty idiot proof.

If she drives it like a normal car she won't even know it's turbo

be careful.  Those cheap cars can be money pits

Exactly.  For an everyday, quiet driver it will just seem like a taxi.  Plus the traction control will cut the fun if she accidentally gives it a boot-full.  My wife drove our XR6T for about a year, and then came home one day with a big smile - "I think I found the boost!"

As said above.

I have no worries letting my almost 80yo mum drive mine - no different as far as she's concerned to driving her 4cyl VW

My cars running 325 at the wheels and my GF and mum have no dramas with it. But if you are still worried you could get a throttle controller and wind it down. Save fuel too haha.

all I would do is make sure shes insured to drive it and long as she isn't hooning or being stupid the cars covered.

if she writes it off and dies, then go get a new wife. simples
