But leave it to long and it may require engine out good excuse to build one. I am considering short stroke engine. The stoke stroke is fine at 7500 everyday and is fine to rev to 8000rpm on the limiter doing powerskids don't think you'll ever go that far... Typhoon Member 564 Member For: 20y 8m Gender: Male Posted 09/05/17 06:07 AM Author Share Posted 09/05/17 06:07 AM (edited) Yes I could get away with just doing the head gasket but I would want to re seat the valves, do some porting, valve springs, and head studs if the heads coming off. At that point I might as well build the motor. I think you need to remove the engine just to do head studs, not sure if you can get the head on with the motor in the car. eff xr6t Member 569 Member For: 11y 7m 23d Posted 09/05/17 06:09 AM Share Posted 09/05/17 06:09 AM You just set all the headstuds in the block at the height needed in the block first then remove them put the head on the block and re install the studs and nuts Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/93185-head-gasket-problem/page/3/#findComment-1638461 Share on other sites

Expand Not quite man. If that's the plan then sure that's the time to do it. There is a big difference between a whole engine recon and a head recon. I always do the most of the stuff you mentioned when the head is off. Hand porting is a pita aka time consuming but if you can be bothered then go for it. As eff xr6t said you can definitely fit the head onto the block with it in the car. This motor leaks heaps of oil, main seals head gasket power steering pump etc. I have had the car re-tuned. 440kws @ the hubs 17psi. (ZF BFII full Nizpro stage 2 plus kit + GEN2 GTX3582r + surge + E85) My issues were tune related. 1 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/93185-head-gasket-problem/page/3/#findComment-1641166 Share on other sites
