Hi all

took the car out for a squirt today and noticed under load from 3rd to 4th gear the revs hardly drop and instantly it's hitting the limiter, my first thought was I lost traction but after trying again didn't feel like I lost traction and did the same thing any thoughts guys why it's doing this and what it could be

manual or auto (BTR or ZF)?

I'm assuming ZF auto... so that means the clutches in the gearbox are slipping as they try to apply the pressure required to change gear it's not engaging the next gear quick enough to avoid the limiter, I think...

yeah, 3rd to 4th is the most common clutch set to have issues (as people usually aren't getting to the top of 4th gear to change under load to 5th :P ) in a ZF vehicle with a reasonable amount of power.

A fluid change on the gearbox might alleviate the symptoms, but it's likely the gearbox will need to be removed and rebuilt (expensive).

countless times I've had a ZF come in after it's been "serviced" and has issues since that can be fixed by checking levels correctly and if it's been ZF "Tuned" and now won't engage 4th then your tuner needs to have another go at it ;)

Yes the ZF Is tuned,Your correct, it was low on oil about 800ml, I followed the level check procedure took it out had one go as it started to rain and it engaged 4th the way it should
