Far from cool mate. I'm on the south coast of nsw. I've had it mirror temps on 40 degree days in traffic. I watch the temps through and obd2 reader.

Hi Snails Pace;

In my experience an air oil without a fan should be fine. I'm running 410RWKW in a BFII XR6 with 155000kms on a stock trans with this setup. Trans shifts great in all conditions. But fluid level must be checked and correct after fitting a cooler.

I have an Auto meter trans temp gauge installed. It never runs hotter then 210 °F, and that's after a real flogging or a hot day in bumper to bumper traffic.

My cooler is mounted behind my Nizpro intercooler and in front of my air conditioning condenser. Front and center of the car. Its not a massive cooler.

Generally speaking my trans temps are between 120-180 °F  in most conditions. In winter cursing at say 60 to 100kmh it will sit at around 110-120 °F nice and cool and within ZFs operating temperatures as noted below.

Hi George;

Normal transmission operation for ZF 6HP26 is between 30 – 120 degrees C. (86 - 248°F) Before 30 degrees C we have warm up strategy and after 120 degrees C the transmission will enter high temperature strategy (Hot mode).

Oil checking overflow level is a 40 degrees C and depending on climate normal transmission oil sump temperatures can vary between 60 and 100 degrees C.

I don't see any issues with the temperatures you are talking about providing the oil flow to the transmission has not been restricted.

As your operation temps are lower I see this as a benefit for extending the service life of the oil.

Kind regards

My trans oil temp sender in not in the trans sump, its mounted on the car in the engine bay

The oil temp is read before its cooled so I'm always getting an accurate reading of trans temps.

Hope this info helps

Ended up mounting the cooler behind the drivers fog light.

I'd read plenty of accounts of people fitting them between the air con condenser and the intercooler but f*cked if I could make it fit. If I could have got it to fit I would have done it that way and saved so much f*cking around.

I went with a 10" Davies Craig thermo and setrab inline temp switch.

I took photos but no idea how to post them and not willing to learn how.

Drives fine, just have to wire up a pilot light in the cabin so I know when the thermo is kicking in because at the moment Ive got no idea

Dont need  to,the fan makes a racket when it comes on.ive got the same set up,mines mounted under the front passenger side seat bolted with brackets to the chassis rail.

Edit .. just noticed where you have mounted yours so maybe you might want to. I put mine in that spot as its next to the box,shorter hoses and in the breeze.
