I've driven it from christchurch to dunedin for work purposes. As I was nearing dunedin and the hills became a factor in started noticing my temp gauge behaving funny the car was hearing up to about 3mm passed the middle and then dropping down to just under half again . It's been doing it all day while driving around dunedin (for those that don't know , Dunedin is built mainly in hills. ) is this cause for concern or just the car responding to the extra load with hill climbing etc . It doesnt reach the halfway point between 1/2 and 3/4 though

At 93* the factory gauge will sit about 3/4 in between 1/4 and the halfway mark. I suggest doing a full service on it. That way you know where the car is at. There's heaps of info on here for you to digest. Have a look around and use the search function for anything you want to know. If you can't find it just ask. Have fun.

Was a little worried about the fluctuations to about 1/4 between the 1/2 -3/4 range . I will be giving it a coolant flush etc when I'm back home from the work trip. Other then that it goes great . Left me white knuckled on the passing lanes that's for sure

k31th less WHY; more WOT Site Developer 29,142 Member For: 16y 9m 7d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 30/01/17 09:04 AM Share Posted 30/01/17 09:04 AM He's saying a quarter of the way between the half marker and three-quarter marker on the gauge. This is totally normal for a stock thermostat. An aftermarket thermostat combined with a tune is a good idea as it turns the thermo-fans on a little earlier and prevents heat spikes in the coolant.
Spydabite42 New Member 8 Member For: 7y 11m 18d Posted 30/01/17 09:07 AM Author Share Posted 30/01/17 09:07 AM Oh . I didn't mean it went from the 1/4 line . Mean that as an idea of the distance between half and 3/4 mark . It was moving up and down between 11oclock and 1oclock . Was usually always at 11 but with the hills etc it's started to go up and down in temp . The city I. Love in is completely flat . Only started in this hilly place . That's awesome news!! . I am still a little wary of my new girl . As it was owned by a young guy before me who went for the cheaper options of things . Eg compressed Springs rather then actual lowering springs . And a home job middle muffler delete. I've patched over the exhaust welds temporarily until I can get it into a shop to be cut out and done properly . Just want to keep it pretty much factory other then a nice subtle sound and lowering springs set to suit the 18s with minimal complications due to height clearance. Thank you very much for your help . I imagine I'll be scouring through these forums when I get some time trying to soak up as much info about these cars as possible
