I had a little scare with this last night.

Came zooming into bunnings car park late last night (almost closed and empty, so ok to 'zoom'). Hard acceleration then I backed off the throttle and simultaneously turned into the parking spot and pulled up just short of a tree.

The engine revs dropped down low (less than 300rpm), the computer revved the engine to stop it from stalling, the revs shot up and the car leapt forward almost hitting the tree. :nyaah:

I think the problem lies with trailing throttle (when pulling up to stop) and an increased mechanical load such as a/c or p/s at idle causes the revs to drop faster than the PCM can compensate.

I don't think it is Hot temperature related as my problem occurred at an ambient temp of about 15 deg C. The reason others have this happen at high temp is possibly because the a/c is on, loading down the engine at idle, via the compressor and alternator.

I would think it has very little to do with temperature, I was driving mine yesterday in the heavy rain and when I slowed down to stop at the lights it stalled. Th gauge was well below half way. NOT GOOD ENOUGH FORD. The dealer tried to blame the APS II kit, after reading this thread, I know better. Thanks guys. :kissmy:

It has begun!!!! Mine didn't have the problem for the first 35000klms, then it appeared and remains.

The more I read this thread the more it seems a load problem that is caused by power steering & Aircon that is loading the engine at low rpm and the fly by wire is unable to catch the engine before it stalls. I bet anyone could make their car stall under the right conditions. I really hope that Ford sort this problem out quickly as it is dangerous.

Chalk up another one for me.

A hot day today in Syd (currently 39 deg at 5:50pm)... about an hour ago on the way home I was in a 50kph zone, air con at medium fan, came to a stop sign, went to drive off, no engine. Ho hum.

I've made another call the 13Ford to voice my concern that this thing might stall in a bad place and cause an incident. I've also indicated that I now know the extent of this problem having read all the complaints of other owners here on the site.

Apparently they are going to call me tomorrow.

Last week I had the WDS update installed on my XR6 n/a. Certainly makes a difference and so far no stalling or idle-hunting. It's also changed the shift points for the auto. Previously, the 3rd to 4th change occured at 70km/h. It now happens at 63-65. Overall all gear changes are a lot smoother, as is the idle. The trade-off however is that I've noticed the car has a little less mongrel. Maybe coz it's smoother, but it feels like it's lost 2-3% power/torque. Almost seems like they've configured things to reduce the timing of the car. Anyway, we'll see how it pans out long term. Interested to hear from anyone else that's had the update.

Sorry to inform you guy's but I'm curious to know what calibrations your dealers are using. At this present point in time the updated calibrations haven't even left FOMOCO.

I rang the Biti Motors yesterday and they said that they still havent recieved their updates for the WDS yet either.

They also said that because my break shudder is comming back and that Ford still havent comissioned the disk skimmer there that they would replace my disks when I come in as well :)

I received a call from FoMoCo cust support today to say the dealers would be receiving the flash upgrades during the course of next week.

My dealer's service manager has confirmed this and said that he'll be doing mine real soon.

I wonder if after the updates are flashed to peoples cars - if the stalling really is heat related as has been suggested by many - that the soon to be cooler daily termperatures give us all a perception that the problem is fixed.

Had a close call yesterday. Accelerated to unnder the speed limit, then did the right turn I do practically every day. The car stalled on me on the turn and almost made me hit a parked car and left me dead in the middle of the road. If I did hit the car, I garentee that I'd make my insurance company take this much further.

I have also had this drama, car 7 month old 7000km and had been near on perfect, then twce in one week it staled and under the same conditions, air on, hard turn to right at low km, pulling into driveway accross traffic, was lucky I live in small town and can get away with it more so than the city people. Car goes in on Wed to be looked at.
