A mate of mine has a n/a xr6 and has asked me to see what u guys can come up in regards to his problem;occasionally when he starts it it will blow smoke,he uses no throttle on startup so that discounts that theory. His car has done about 5000 klickothingys and has had an oil change at 1000 k's.He has also mentioned that sometimes it can turn over a few more times before it actually fires up. I told him the best way to fix it would be to trade up to a turbo

I have heard of similar things in the turbo model. Fisrt place to look would be the coil pack or high tension leads. Sounds like it could be ignition related. The other possibility would be a slight blockage in the aircleaner or exhaust. Someone posted here problems with their catalytic converter. I'm not a mechanic but both these could effect what you describe. Ofcourse there could be a million other reasons that I am unaware of.

What colour is the smoke and how long does it go on after startup?

Ours does the same, only just when you start it though. I'd say it's normal.
