If the crank is factory ford it will be nodular iron. How did you smooth the crank?

OH dear, so the image shows all VOIDS. There is very little chance it wont loosen again.  Realistically  the crank needs machining or replacing.

Yep that's right.

That is why I'm going to pull the gearbox back off after a short time and check it all again.

Unless there is a way to machine a crank on the car!!

Hell you might get lucky and it stays tight but I'm with arronm on this one.

Do you really want to be pulling the gearbox out and the clutch off all the time?

I'd like to know if it's possible to clean up the end of a crank while it's in the car... I think it's easier to pull the gearbox off 20 times than it is to pull a crank out of a motor :spoton:

There are flange refacing tools available. It's just getting hold of one that's the hard part. The crank is definitely not a throwaway item, it can be repaired, but doing it while in the car is tricky without the right tool.

It's doable, but that level of damage would need very careful measuring to establish the correct hieght before machining/facing to remove the damage and would like need some form of spacer to restore the correct spacing for the flywheel to stater and clutch release mechanism.
