Twist are 245's   8.5 inch rims by memory.

They are 8 inch. All BA-FG performance car rims are 8-inch wide unless it's the FG R-spec 9-inch wide ones (only the rears are 9-inch in this case). Also, 255 is the widest street tyre you should put on an 8-inch rim, IMHO

Yep, XR6/8, XR6 Turbo or FPV, they are all 8 inch unless the special R-Spec 9 inch wide version.  Nine inch rears includes the FG-X XR6T and XR8 plus Sprint as well since they get the R-Spec parts included IIRC

Yeah, FG-X has option for 9" rears.

245 is widest to comfortably go on 8". Couple of brands/model tyres can go 255, but it's more due to geometry rather than their width/profile.

Yeah that's the funny thing and hard to be sure about.  Some tyres poke out more than others despite being the same "size".

Plus I found this interesting...it seems obvious when it's pointed out but even tread pattern counts.  Reading an article about the Sprints - the Sprint series XRs run 10mm NARROWER tyres than the standard FG-X XR8 but it has slightly MORE contact area!

Quote

Despite using the same wheel widths as the regular XR8’s R-Spec based setup, the Sprints get a unique rear tyre size, moving from the XR8’s 275/30 R19 to a 265/35 R19 P-Zero.

According to the development team, the Pirelli’s taller aspect ratio was better suited to their ride and handling targets, and despite having a 10mm narrower section width, the new tyre actually has a three per cent larger tread contact area.

Just goes to show it's mainly down to tyre choice (construction, softness and tread pattern), size can be secondary.  Can't just get slicks though, if you want grip in wet conditions though you need grooves hahaha.  Always a trade off.

And sidewall.

Low profile tyres may look tuff, but the wrong ones screw up all the work you put into your suspension real quick :(
