Hi guys!

I bought K&N oil filter for my fg turbo from ebay. Went to supercheap auto before that and they had 2 types of oil filters for turbo.

First is normal ryco filter and there was another one with fine filtering. I wasn't sure which one to get.

If I get fine filter (more expensive),it could affect oil flow, especially since my car is modified with more power.

So I decided to get K&N hi-flow oil filter for my machine from ebay, since I didn't see it in any shop.

Paid slightly less then the one at supercheap store.

After receiving it, I have second thoughts about installing it.

Have a look at the attached photos of finish quality. It was non-sealed, paint is oversprayed and just general look will show lack of quality for something “made in US”, unless this is the new norm.

So I wonder, should I go and put this in, or does it look like to you guys like fake K&N?

Also, what filters are you using?

Cheers!20161021_165114.thumb.jpg.61a3ffc658f6d720161021_165221.thumb.jpg.e4b05478a8503920161021_165312.thumb.jpg.621e8c033dce1820161021_165523.thumb.jpg.bbd723f67c6bca20161021_165709.thumb.jpg.f766c8330553a1

I thought real K&N oil filters have a nut on top to be wrenched off easily.

Although when I google 'K&N oil filter' I seem to find ones that look like yours so I'm not sure...most have a little nut on top though.

I just use a ryco filter, was thinking of going genuine but knowing me I'll just put another ryco in. I used to think the same about the oil filter being a big restriction to flow but it seems the engine has a bypass system so if the filter is blocked things will still get lubed. I'm not a mechanic is my usual disclaimer here but I'd just go ahead and fit the filter, don't forget to wipe some oil on that rubber gasket :)

Not sure never used one. Best oil filters are genuine ford , bought from ford. Only 10 bucks.  AFL101.

If in doubt dont use the K&N

Thanks skidxr6t! I always used to buy K&N filters from supercheap for my previous car.
Unfortunately, they haven't got it for FGs.
So, I might as well use it now...
Arronm, where do you buy genuine FG filters?

That's a k&n mate. I've seen plenty and I used one once and had no problems but I would recommend a normal filter. The k&n looks crap for a supposed high quality filter ay. There are two types of k&n oil filter. One with and one without a nut on top.
The k&n is high flow which is perfect for a track car cos revs are always high so it won't bypass the filter but it also doesn't filter as fine.
Street car will rarely see high revs. Even for those of us bouncing off limiter and driving hard you still spend most of the time at low revs. At lights or traffic whatever. So normal filter is best because finer filtering and will just bypass at the top of the revs so it doesn't affect oil pressure.

I have been using K&N filters on my FG XR6 Falcon for years and they have never failed or caused any oil flow issues, I use full synthetic oil.

I don't recommend using the genuine filters as they are just very basic filters, there are two types of oil filters, the one you brought and the one I use the HP-2010 with the wrench off nut and that is about the only difference in the filters.

This is what I have been looking for!
I didn't realize there were 2 types of those filters from k&n for fg.
So, HP-2010 is the one to get for my fg?
I use castrol titanium 0-40w.
Do you clean oil feed line filter supplying turbo every service?
