It's  a bit like "can you use threaded rod for wheel studs?"

Yeh you could and it might even work, but would you bother ?

Nah wrong pitch jet.

I know what you mean and my first thought when I opened the thread no pun intended was why cheap out on such a simple but important part.

But @eff xr6t made a valid suggestion backed up with fact.

To determine the best studs to use , you need to understand why they come loose.

wss never trying to cheap out. it has sonic stud kit on turbo to manifold at the moment but came loose....also its 1.5 thread pitch both ends on the studs ...could that be why it came loose? it was desighned for it..

I just use 50mm bolts with the head cut off to create a stud and flange nuts on my car. Tighten them up after the first heat cycle and I've never had them come loose. FACT!!

was that turbo to manifold or manifold to head or bolth?

The two threads are different pitches for a reason.

Exactly. Take a look at the location of the unthreaded section of the stud.  Guess where that needs to sit.

im pretty certain the thread the same potch on the sonic atuds I got as I just used a 1.5 m10 bolt on both ends to see if it was and it worked..

Phuck studs, for the manifold to head, I make sure that all the threads on the head are tapped right down to the bottom by running a tap to the bottom.  Then I use allen key headed grade 8 bolts with nordlock washers. I measure for the right size bolt so when tightened up the thread grabs to the bottom of the hole. (I know you are not meant to tighten bolts into ally but it works if plenty of thread)

Yes there are two holes where you need to elongate the hole a little to get the bolt in but no big deal, you can use studs there if you want.

Pretty much the same on the turbo except two bolt holes do need elongation to get the allen key headed bolts in.

I have other ways I secure studs but if I explained it you would call me crazy. The point is a stud and nut on its own will always loosen.
