Dropped some stuff off at one store, go to woolies to get stuff for dinner all fine and dandy. Then when I turn my car on to go home I notice the engine light is staying on. Drove home and it at least felt fine but the light stayed on. I am not having a great start with this thing. Hopefully its something minor and cheap but my luck says it will be the complete opposite

Are the ones that bluetooth to android phones any good or should I invest in a full wired thing and if so, which is a good brand?

Don't waste your money on a wired one. It's the same sh*t. Torque pro can scan for codes and turn the light off etc. Forscan is just more descriptive and has more pids. All up you would get away with it for under $30 if you shop right.

Forscan layout is very basic and all business. Torque is prettier. Have a look in my thread there's a pic of torque running.
