Sounds like the thermostat was sticking initially and once replaced acted like a thermostat should.

@ROB83R 70 to 90 is just fine for an alloy/cast motor. Don't go colder, you'll run into several issues, while not major, will decrease engine life and increase fuel consumption.

On that note don't flog ya car until it's warmed up!

that's reassuring thanks :spoton:

All good. 70 imho is getting too cold though.

I've seen it hit 93 then the fans come on.

I'm more paranoid about the zf than the motor.

It has an external air to oil cooler with the exchanger deleted and it mirrors the coolant temp sometimes a couple degrees under.

mine sits around 1/4 as steves does.

if you're scared of the fuel economy, just give the throttle a rip. When it's cold I love nothing more than a quick 'heater warmer'.

I don't do it to a stone cold engine however and nor do I get into high RPM.

any excuse to put the boot in I guess!

Was mowing my lawns after getting back from holiday and I discovered this... 20161026_141228.thumb.jpg.9800cfb8acb3e020161026_141208.thumb.jpg.c4452379bf431b
Didnt notice it happen but I guess I flicked up a stone. Anyway, any idea what this is going to set me back? Is it something I can replace myself easily or is it best to just leave it to professionals?

Worst case you'll have to source a whole door just for the window, I've seen them go quite cheap ($20) when the panel isn't perfect.
