The ls1 coils are internal igniter in the coil vs ford coils igniter inside the pcm. edit: seen you've allready know they are igniter in coil. The igniter uses a 5v signal to trigger the coil and obviously the ba pcm out puts a 12-15v to charge the coils.

Actually looking at the wiring for the ls1 coils I think it would be possible to use them with some work. I think you would need to create a secondary power and earth harness and then adjust coil charge time in the tune to zero and run the current common power and earths switched by the ecu to operate the ignitors. Obviously some additional steps would be required to get the correct trigger voltage. Would be well worth it imho if it allowed you to run reasonable spark gap at big boost without spark boosters etc.

Tweak the voltage with a simple resistor or a linear regulator even but I dont think the load will vary if its just a trigger so a resistor may even be fine if the pcm doesnt spaz out about the voltage drop. Otherwise you may need a relay and a seperate 5v source which sounds fraught with problems...

But ls1 coils are weak really anything over 15psi I had to gap them down to .6 but they then hold up to 30psi with the .6 gap. I use them because they can be found anywhere for $50 a set second hand and for the price they work well. By the time you buy a good set of ignition leads plus all the wiring accessories it's cheaper to just buy a new set of coil on plug and a voltage booster. Also if anyone is looking for 90* boot ends for the ignition leads to the coil they are they same plug as AU series 2-3.
