I know the b series and the fg is different as well. 

My cams looked tip top at 170000, must be luck of the draw

Looks like they are the same according to ford parts department. I gave them my VIN and my old mans FG MK2 LPG ute VIN and they both came up with the same Camshafts! Then the guy said they were the same through all the series and models. 

 

Also some BF mk2 are the same.

 

yep must be unlucky I guess. Only done 70k kms.

They are most definitely not the same. BF2 did not get duo phased cams are per FG and niether did the lpg engines.

 

Ford have probably discontinued the BF/LPG cam Part Number hence one size now fits all. 

 

 

They did the same thing with the engine/trans cooler piping in the b series cars. BF2 non thermostat no oil cooler piping was the same part number as the BF1/FPV setup with the trans thermostat and engine oil cooler. The piping in reality was vastly different.

 

If I was you I'd talk to Brad at atomic and see what he can do cam wise.

Changing the cams probably won't be enough.  The rollers are most likely damaged.

Lash adjusters should be okay, but you'll need to change the followers.

Oh I'm used to seeing the build dates written in month and year, due to discussions about BF engines from 06/06 getting stronger rods (that's June 2006).

Hey guys given this thread also applies to me I thought it would best to post here for continuity.
My FG Turbo with 88,000km (running Nulon full Syn 10w40 since 50,000km) has developed a tapping noise from the cam cover. This has gotten worse / more pronounced recently, so could not be ignored. As seen and heard here in my vid.

After removal of cam cover I found a badly damaged lobe on the inlet cam cylinder 1.

Timing looked ok, spring looks good and even the roller/follower still rolls and looks ok.
So what are my options?
Obviously it’s a new inlet cam.
What are the must do’s, like do I need to replace all followers when fitting a new cam, I assume so. What else needs doing?
Or is a second hand cam with all its followers an option also.

Also do people think the cause is just poor manufacturer?

You need to inspect both cams all lobes and the followers.   The followers seem to hold up ok and may not need changing 

 

It's a heat treatment issue at manufacture. 

 

The wear is caused by rolling contact fatigue then spalling and lost material

 

Get some new cams or atomic stage 3 equivalent 

 

It's not the oil that was used
