Using the same diameter pipe. The only thing I could see happening is maybe the metal pipe getting hotter than the plastic. Guest cul08r Guests Posted 19/02/03 09:30 PM Share Posted 19/02/03 09:30 PM On my old EF Fairmont Tickford I changed the intake pipe (plastic) from the air filter (K&N) to the throttle body to a 3" mandrel bent mild steel pipe. Even though it ran hotter than the plastic piece, The diameter was larger and smoother flowing and the car felt more responsive.I can't see a huge concern with heading down this path. HPC coating would be the way to go though, cos you want to keep the air as close to ambient temp as possible. Guest JESMAL Guests Posted 20/02/03 01:43 AM Share Posted 20/02/03 01:43 AM UWISH, why would I see thatb as an attack? :D Yes, you've got a great idea putting the drum filter closer to the turbo so that its more direct but looking at my engine bay, I'm struggling to find more space to do that.....but its a good suggestion....again, some may argue coz close rto the turbo means hotter, and hotter means the drum gets hot much easily...and that means intake temps go way up....and on and on and on.... Guest JESMAL Guests Posted 25/02/03 07:39 AM Share Posted 25/02/03 07:39 AM That was all done before the very first BA XR6T hit the roads. It runs an almost similar setup except its a T03 turbo instead of the big mama GT40. But that won't stay for long coz I'm eyeing on a T05 which will involve piston & injector changes, new computer and etc....looking at 300 to 330kw (flywheel) when all that is done. But I'm happy with it as it is. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/923-chrome-pipes-on-turbo/#findComment-11222 Share on other sites
