I used 6 metres of hose and a 5/8 male/male hose connector to delete the exchanger.

I also added about 500ml of liquid gold to top up the fluid.

My trans temps are the same as coolant temps and the car runs as per normal.

im running a fan on my trans cooler too- the things so damn noisy though. thinking of putting a temp sensor module on it to turn it on and off.

is that a good idea? or is it just best to be on all the time. my BTR needs all the help it can get to stay in one piece...

Have it come on at 70-80c.

Your exhaust and fuel pump must be crap if you can here a fan. Need to drill holes in the muffler

Is it a fairly old school fan? I can't hear the fan on my cooler when the cars idling (is a curved multi blade fan so pretty quiet)

No real value in leaving it running all the time. If I was you I'd certainly add a switch to control cut in/out for the fan

"Rab" is actually me.....

Just to throw my 2cents in- my brack ground is in lpg cars. In ba,s with radiator cooling we had no troubles with water flow to gas convertors. Then came bf,s .Gas convertors freezing up for no apparent reason - systems flushed, thermostats changed, water pumps replaced, heat exchangers replaced - all to no avail        (these are btr  e-gas) After market coolers fitted in front of radiator (water bypassed & heat exchanger ditched) -water flow & no more freezing. Problem solved (or so we thought) Enter fg,s ford picks up water for the convertor through a new spot above the water/air trans cooler No more convertor water flow problems. Now we have cabs coming with -trans over heat- on dash Guess what -no water flow to heat exchanger. Old faithfull trans cooler in front of radiator (and another trans) & back to work they go. So what I'm saying is don't trust that you will have water available to cool your trans fluid!

might be an old davies craig unit- sounds like its going to take off. what type of temp switch should I use- the ones with the temp probe that goes in the fluid line? or put a T inline for an engine temp type switch?

I use one of these-

Came with my Kit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DERALE-8-AN-Inlet-Outlet-Temperature-Switch-Kit-P-N-35021-/331890592933

or

VPW should have them. Derale also do an adaptor fitting that has barbs either end so you just chop the cooler outlet hose install the fitting and your done.

The say you can run the fan current through it but I'm not comfortable with that so it switches the earth on the control side of the relay I use to activate the fan.

I did a bunch of R&D years ago and found beyond a doubt that behind the drivers fog light is perfectly fine location addressing all of your concerns

ive installed countless systems now with not a single issue or failed ZF yet , but this is with my method and installation
