If your base spring pressure is correct that'll work just fine. Eff's second method is best for finite boost control but does need more tuning to get right. Plugging it will make it over boost as it will prevent the gate from opening. Best practice would be a fitting and shirt length of hose run off the top port to atmosphere, but pointing Down to prevent dirt/water ingress but in reality it's not really required.
