I built him a system about 18 months ago and he is very pleased with it. He's moving up in the world and is going to employ another draft person so he needs another work station. This has similar specks to the first one except graphics card is not a Quadro (he wanted to save some coin) So I don,t know how well the 1050 will cope with 3D rendering. I will run a few benchmarks before I hand it over though. Xeon CPU @ 3.4 GHz, 32 GB DDR 4 RAM @ 2133 MHz and an Asus E3 Pro Gaming V5 mobo should make it interesting. It was a bundle from PC Case Gear, I added another 16 GB of RAM to the bundle though

It could be a capacitor that popped. it could also be dust on the fan, but I highly doubt it. if a capacitor popped, the card can still operate. Do some benchmarks and do a burnin run for 24 hours. Cant remember what program I use to use for 24 hour burn/run in for gpu, cpu and psu. Keep in mind that there is always a 7 day DOA warranty for any computer item, once the 7 days are over, then you have to do an RMA and wait for a replacement. It was a dead short to a case fan, took out the fan header mosfet no big deal in the great scheme of things, just means there is one less functioning fan header on the motherboard the front cover panel on the case had pinched one of the fan cables and earthed it out on the steel chassis the fan header was directly underneath the video card, when the mosfet fried the video card fans blew the smoke straight down so it looked like it was coming out of the video card! because I had a heart attack panic, I switched the power supply off and proceeded to do a strange hopping and dancing manoeuvre around my shed and I never got a good sniff of the smoke I may have even dropped the F bomb so when I gathered my wits and started checking the video card, it just smelt like a new piece of hardware Later on I saw that one of the 140mm front fans was not running, pulled it out and voilà

At least mobos are cheap so it won't be a big deal if you choose to replace it. Haha you are probably better off not sniffing smoke my friend
