Silly question (sort of) but does anyone actually use the "voice assistants" on their computers etc?

As in Cortana, Siri, Alexa etc?

Just got a webcam/mic and was wondering if they're useful or as pointless as they seem to be?

(I haven't even gotten into using the one on my phone - feel like a dork talking to it, but just wondering if anyone does use them)

Raised a glass with the son (18yo) tonight to the passing of Totalbiscuit.

The guy was a mainstay from when we started getting into gaming and youtube as a dad/son thing a decade or so ago.

We started reminiscing about the "early days" when we found stuff online to share (he was 10 or so)

Just bought the little fella a 15" Alienware lappy

Was a cheap(er) refurb from the Dell outlet store - about $1k off, as per new, warranty etc, but maybe a couple of scratches

i7 7700hq, GTX1070, 16gb ram, 128gb M2, 1TB 7200rpm SSD, G-sync screen, larger battery, lots of RGB etc

Basically the smaller brother of my 17" lappy.

Replaces his 7yo lappy which was due for an update (school/uni/ etc) and should last him for a long time (at least til his out of my wallet and paying for my retirement :P )

Any links?

Was meant to spend the weekend doing trans service, installing transcooler and intercooler in the car, plus plugs, hectic GTR locking tab washers for the turbo manifold and P clamps for my turbo oil and water lines.

Instead I've been sick on the couch, so decided to chuck a new hard drive in my laptop after the main storage drive died during the week. Was just going to whack it in and re-sync to my OneDrive account, but thought stuff it, time for a Windows refresh.

Dell laptop is almost 6 years old and still runs like the day I bought it. 17" i7 with 8GB and a SSD for the OS. Can't argue with that value.

They definitely keep up better than things used to.

My 2012 system with a 3770k is in no way slow

SSD's bring life back to the older beasts.
