I have windows 10 and thanks for the link. None of those helped. It is the "Microsoft Malware protection service" that is causing me grief, I think. When booting up the pc, the cpu is at like 100%, and when I check what is running, there are no process using more than 9%, but there are quite a few services in the list. I think it might be time to re-install windows 10.

I have sorted out these options in 2K #1, #2 or a 4K TV #3 #2 is 144 Hz and is probably best bang for buck to pair with my GTX 1080 but #3 is my pick cos 4K and huge for a PC monitor (43") but will my !080 run it ??? please help me to spend my hard earned

If you wanna know how well your card will run your games, change the resolution in the game or use super sampling. Even a 1080ti will struggle with 4k, on some games with the settings maxed. It really depends on the game, some will be fine. I've used a 40 inch tv as a monitor for sh*ts and giggles and it was too big. You wanna have a deep desk so you can see the whole screen at once.

I've had a benq xl2730z for a couple of years now and I'm still happy with that. It's 1440p and 144hz. Is there any chance you'll upgrade your gpu in the next couple of years? You could always get a decent 4k monitor now and then you'll be sorted when you upgrade your card. I'd be picking something from this bunch. Think about if you want gsync etc and what refresh rate you're happy with. Ultrawide might be a good way to go.

My 1080Ti is sort of struggling with 2k 144hz 27" screen. I like my settings on high and even though I blame the game, I am getting 60-70 FPS in ROE. I have played dying light and was getting 120FPS. If you think that you may get a 2080Ti in the future, then the 4k one is the best bet right now. Do you really need 144hz as your old TV definitely wasn't 144hz. Remember that once you go black you never want to go back. Same thing applies to 144hz. Once you have a 144hz screen, if you go back to playing 60hz in games, you loose your sh*t within an hour and rage quit. Don't ask me how I know cause I am not gonna tell you.
