Guys,

So what's your favourite brand of 98 RON?  Conch?  Wasp Piss?  Bee Pee?

On a recent trip to Melbourne, I filled up with BP in Albury at $1.30/L for 98 RON.  I arrive back in Sydney and it's up around $1.57/L this week.  There's a 7-11 across the road and they're selling at $1.32/L for 98 RON.  No it's not my favourite drop, but at circa 25 cpl cheaper, I will buy it.

If they can sell 98 RON in the country town of Albury for $130/L and if 7-11 can sell it in Sydney at circa $130/L when the guys across the road are asking $1.57/L, it looks to me like some of them are having a lend of us.   And 7-11 at more than 20 cpl cheaper is not an isolated incident out my way.  I hope that 7-11 pulls the other guys into gear so I can go back to my favourite brand.

Can you ask the missus' father for some data to back that up? I'd love to see some concrete evidence of that bit of information that I've been believing for quite some time :)

BP are always more expensive, I've been following FuelWatch more than usual the last month and most BP's sit at the same pricing, there's no competition amongst most of them, except the Subiaco store which is usually a few cents cheaper.

As I visit mum down in Mandurah, work in East Perth, live in Wast Perth and shop in Innaloo, I use all the local stations around me.

So taking Thursday as an example:

Now I'm not sure if BP stations are wholly owned by BP and therefore the price is always set by them or if they are independent, but why isn't the ACCC looking at why there's no competition between stores?

I love fuelwatch and we are lucky to have it in WA in my opinion.

I use it all the time to save money. I love it when people think saving like 25 cents a litre is pointless effort.

the reason they get away with this pricing bullsh*t is that 'they're all paying a similar price wholesale'

I disagree

I think base fuel is all the same, but each of the major fuel company's have there own blends.

I work on fuel tankers everyday and have noticed that product indicators for each compartment (rotating barrel with many different labels on it)

That there is

Unleaded

95 unleaded

Premium unleaded

E85

Diesel

E10

BP Ultimate

Voterx Premium

Now if they were all the same why would they bother putting two extra labels if all 98 is premium unleaded

I don't have any hard evidence though

Just my thoughts

I think the biggest difference we experience is between the individual service station site.

You mean in terms of storage quality and maintenance upkeep of facilities/functions associated with the fuel itself?
