If I could turn back time

I'd run stock all day

I'd take back those cams and retainers and wouldn't  have to pay

I don't know why I choose what I did

I don't know why I went that way

Cams like a mountain, the heads cut deep inside

Cams are so lopey, they stall sometimes

best I got at short notice.

Tina Fitter/Turner would be impressed.

My advice. Go cams. You want em your money just do it.

Like the rest of these guys I wouldn't. No need.

These motors are different to jap motors. What works on them generally goes backwards on these barras.

Well, with the bigger target of 1,000 in mind cams certainly wouldn't hurt. But again, lot to consider. Driveability, whether you want it on the street, and as Tocchi said, build the motor strong without cams, and go a bigger turbo. I think I'd go this way too.

Nothing wrong with going cams at all...flowing the head isnt required unless you plan spinning the thing up 8k and on.

In the end do what you feel is best and what the tuner/mechanic says. There is always going to be people saying yes and no.

And on a side note.......6870 :D

I have Stage 4 Atomic Cams. They drop straight in, work well with VCT and were easy to tune. As expected fuel economy will go down hill though. I've got mine sounding stock and the car drives mint, you wouldn't know it had bigger cams.

You know they're helping airflow because if you run an open loop boost control system you will drop about 1.5 - 2psi off you boost curve. Add the boost back in, and tune to suit, you obviously pick up power. The Stage 4's aren't overly aggressive and I still make peak power around 5300rpm.

On a Faraone Mainline Hub dyno, GTX35, 18psi, Stage 4 cams I made 460kw at the axles.

Why not have it all.  Head work, cams, steel crank, big turbo.  All = more power, less boost and reliability
