Damn I'm keen: Quote Well what can I say. We're back from the dead. We’ve been kicking on in the old RW thread for a while now so given it’s getting close to the official launch period it’s time for a new thread and a bit of a rundown of the main points before it all goes public.Motul Racewars 2017 is the event we’ve always wanted to run. The host location is by far the best of its kind in Australia, with Albany and the Great Southern Region being as beautiful as it is well resourced and well positioned to host the event while providing all who attend with the level of services they deserve. There’s even E85 on pump in town which is more than can be said for just about anywhere SOR in Perth! The runway itself is again above and beyond what we’re used to. “The Goat Track” was 1540m x 18m of lumps, bumps and not for the faint of heart at big speeds. It was a lively strip and it will always be warmly remembered however as people got quicker and quicker we were always going to outgrow it. Albany Regional Airport is 1800m x 30m and built to handle aircraft up to Boeing 737’s. While Temora is longer at 2120m it’s also close to 3000ft higher with Albany being just 233ft above sea level. Given the cooler climate and the low altitude our density altitude coupled with the surface should go a long way to helping some of the big guys run some proper numbers. The facilities at the strip are just as impressive as the strip itself. The airside section of terminal will be open over the weekend so there’s undercover seating, proper washrooms and even café there for all to use on top of the facilities we’ll be bringing to the event. (The VIP area should be quite impressive as well from what I can make out). The other thing most of us will welcome is grass, it’s everywhere and should make a welcome change from the dusty days of old. All of the above I’m sure you all already know by now so I’ll cut to the important stuff. After being asked for years to permit Drag Radials (and somewhere to warm them) we can now finally sign off on it and give people the tyre choices they’ve been asking for. Again this should help the guys wanting to run numbers and also help us keep the strip in good condition. You’ll hear “Spinning isn’t winning” a fair bit so basically if you’re just keen for skids Gazzanats is on the same weekend and just up the road and you’re probably better off there. The popularity of Street Outlaws gave us and the crew at Forged Magazine a bit of an idea. As such we’ll be having a knock out 1/8th mile “Cash Days” competition under lights on Saturday night where just like the TV show pretty much anything goes. I’ve honestly no idea how it will go but I’m keen as hell to see how it all unfolds. Sunday will play host to the first Racewars Show & Shine. The Great Southern Region & beyond are home to some outstanding cars and while they may not all be cut out for ½ mile passes down the strip they’re well worth having a look at. The main game is as always the ¼ mile & ½ mile roll on racing & the headline 1000m VMAX Challenge. By the time we ran our last event we basically had this reasonably down pat so aside from a few changes to suit the new location it will be familiar to anyone who’s been to Racewars before. The City of Albany was insistent that we ran over a long weekend so with the RW Monday being a public holiday we’re in the process of locking in a deal to run the SRT Sprint a few in here will know from the Speed Event Series in the Albany Industrial area on Monday morning if anyone still wants more seat time after 2 full days on the strip. Once we get everything locked away we’re aiming to launch the sprint to anyone who wishes to enter so you could very well just come down for the sprint if the straight line airstrip stuff isn’t your cup of tea. The best thing is even if you’re all done and dusted with racing after Sunday, then there’s still plenty to see and do in town to occupy your day before you head home. There’s also going to be a bigger focus on the social aspect of the event. We’ve done a deal with a local historic hotel to become our official off track HQ for the weekend so when we’re not at the track we’ll be there making the most of what time we have spare. We’ll also have a proper awards ceremony and unwind session at the hotel after racing wraps up on Sunday. If you’d rather spent time with the family or avoid hanging around the guys you chopped up and hearing about how you only won because you did a “Shannon Start” Albany has you covered. There’s an array of options for every taste and budget and plenty of family friendly options for partners and kids to go see and do during the day if they’re not keen on being trackside all weekend. The National ANZAC Center is a must. It’s not been easy to bring this event back to life and I really think this is as good an opportunity as we’ll ever have to run the event to standard that opens its appeal up beyond the dedicated group of guys who’ve underpinned the event previously. We’ll never forget those who supported us in the early days and we’re glad to reward your faith with the event we think you deserve. Sorry if this all sounds a bit wanky but honestly I know the entire team is pumped for this in a way we haven’t been since the original back in 2013. I’m lead to believe the official launch is imminent so I’ll leave the finer details for then. Regardless stay tuned. More info at the links below.
