Hey first time post etc etc.

I did a quick search and couldn't find the info I was after and hoping someone can enlighten me.

Just bought my first xr6 turbo and have been wondering what exactly happens when the traction control engages?

I'm assuming it has something to do with pulling power and possibly rear brakes/zf auto getting involved but wanted to know what goes on in more detail.

Want to know more mainly just because I'm curious. Also is there a power limit above which it would be detrimental to your car to have traction control turned on if you're say running above 350-400rwkw ( I'm not but would be good to know for the future)

Cheers for any info,

Nathan

^^ Also interested in this

Usually it's off before I'm out of the driveway, but sometimes I forget

The way it violently grabs when it decides it's required*, cutting power and braking or whatever it does is an uncomfortable feeling to say the least, feels like it mechanically can't be doing any favours at all

*Disclaimer: Private roads :)

Yeah my car is running somewhere in the range of 280-290rwkw and even now I can't see it being a good thing grabbing in first and second when it's trying to let loose on the stock 18's. Only just tried turning it off and the car feels happier being able to spin the wheels abit whilst gaining traction.

I can only imagine having the power to light the tyres in third that the traction must just want to grab its briefcase, coat and hat and walk out yelling 'you're on your own'

382rwkw on 98, 438rwkw on e85...yeh no chance wringing out 1st or second

Mine's manual, very fine line to get max power possible / most forward motion out of it without smashing the limiter which is a bit suicidal cos stock oil pump gears

Third gear TC will still throw its arms around you if it's been left on, but with decent power it's wayyy behind, you're already well into it

Result is what I imagine it's like to be coat hangered say 5m below the bungee platform

I gotta say one thing, the traction control on the BA was dog sh*t compared to the BF.

In the short time I drove my new BF, I was able to pull out with more acceleration than my BA would allow me. Far better. Don't know if this could have been todo with the tune though!

Yeah that's why I'd love someone that is familiar with the system to shed some light.

I couldn't imagine that would be enjoyable in your car@camo86T.

I feel like there should be a limit to its capabilities before it nukes your driveline or something breaks.

I have an fg auto . I don't mind leaving traction on when accelerating from standstill if I'm feeling lazy .
The car is running more power than standard so doesn't take much throttle to turn the tyres from low speed.
I like how it makes the gearbox short shift when it gets wheelspin and you can just ride the mid range and still get up the road at a decent pace.

If I'm having a good crack I turn it off and shift manually

You can't expect it to work miracles so you still have to control wheelspin with your right foot. Just makes it harder to predict now the weather is cooling down because it's harder to get heat into the tyres.

Cant say I get backlash from traction control. Definately get a massive downturn in power and even sometimes some splutter from the ignition retarding.Attached is some reading on what is actually happening in the FGs

The flutter and what not is obviously the TC kicking in and doing its thing. Sorry dont have better video but just wanted to show how smooth it seemed compared to some of the comments above.
