Hey guys! I've been a member on here for a while! (made an acc when I was going to buy a G6et)

But I decided it was a good idea to pop the question (she said yes), make lil babies (will happen after wedding in '17 now)  and car got put on the back burner. til I snapped one day driving my 99 camry wagon n said *beep* this I need a weekender again. the missus gave in and the hunt began

so I hunted round and I've found a nice purple BF (build date is 03/06 I think he said) xr6t with only 84xxxks on it auto trans

wont be daily driven, looking for a mild amount of power say low 300's (missus wouldnt be too happy is future kid it driven round in a monster)

is it worth paying the extra 2-3k and get the 6 speed in the BF even though it may not have the stronger internals (06/06 was the magic F6 internals number yeh??)

or would the BF be a more fun/reliable platform for 300rwks over a BA I or II

Cheers guys!

Nathen

here's the car the bloke has agreed to my offer pending an inspection on Saturday. Fair drive to go see/get it but at least I could be driving back with a huge grin on my face!

Already nicknamed the purple monkey dishwasher ;)

6 gears is pretty nice, but I'm biased since I own one.  Can support more power without a rebuild, but eventually clutch packs will still wear out and need a rebuild anyway...depends on how it was driven I guess.

Might have a hard time finding a really nice example since they are getting a bit long in the tooth and tend to be abused being the Turbo model.  As long as fluids are changed and suspension components are replaced when required they are pretty good though.  I'm at 297,xxx km in mine and I hurt it a lot...just warm up and cool down every time.  Oil/filter at 7,500km.

Also shame you can't get Phantom in BFs.  Menace is not nearly as good!

This one seems really nice, only 84xxxks on her so its well below the average. owned by an older bloke so im hoping it isnt too abused. used www.etis.ford.com  and it said it has "high series brakes"

I'm OCD when it comes to maintenance (being a maintenance fitter myself) first thing is to find a good mechanic/tuner in my area take her there for a service and the oil feed line replacement. then go from there I suppose! Phantom is a nice colour! *drools*

You sure that purple one isn't a 6 speed?

Looks to have the little sticker in bottom left side.....

Edit: Also 'high series brakes' doesnt mean jack I believe.....mine says it too but I believe it just refers to having the 322mm TURBO calipers (which all XR6Ts should have?)

Yeh she's a 6 speed BF mk1 03/06 build, was looking at BA's but was really interested. Then this one came along and well deposit is down and going to look at it and if it's all good I'll drive it home!

Ahhh.....read the first post wrong lol

The other thing I realised with cars with low kms ...is to check whether the guy actually still serviced every 6months regardless of kms travelled. Not sure how you could prove this (especially if hes one of those DIY mechanics). Always skeptical of those sorts of sellers....and also when they say things like "I don't keep receipts".....If you LOVED your car you would at least have a majority of them (especially major ones).

Bushes will be another thing cause there's bound to be some needing to be done in a 10yr old car. Hopefully it comes up all good and you can boost all the way home! :P

ill check the dates on service see how that goes. not too worried about that but would be nice if she is date serviced not k's. he said hes done the last couple himself (hes a maintenance fitter as well and he's dad own a mechanics shop). ill get a feel for what he knows ect when I meet him. diff bushes are a common thing but with my best mate being a bursons manager I get the things I need cheap cheap :)

ill be nice to her til I choose a mechanic/tuner to take it too, fit an aftermarket oil feed line (heard these can be painful if not done) and get a service done regardless of when the last one is done. cant wait to own/drive one. always wanted one! do you guys do drive days ect??

Also the ZF service can be pretty pricey....if sticking to genuine lifeguard fluid the price can range from $40-80 per litre (I paid roughly $600ish for that alone).

Turbo oil line was my first 'mod'....my cars done 139k and turbos still alive lol  and yeh they are good in stock form....well my FG with the baby turbo is :P I found the BF a bit laggy with the big brother turbo...

Cant speak for wherever you live; but this forum doesn't have many events.....might get the odd cruise every few months....but I think most are too busy to be organising that stuff unfortunately.

yeh ill be using the good stuff for servicing! if I could throw a new oil feed line on her before she was driven home I would!!!

the fg turbos are great! but the budget couldnt fit an fg in. yeh ill do some hunting round find a good place n go from there!
