Blue smoke at idle

I had an old L300 van with buggered valve stem seals and it would use 3-4 litres every 5k. It would puff away at idle then a huge cloud when taking off then nothing till I stopped again. Fixed the seals and it went another 100k and barely used any oil. Maybe .5 litre every 5k

Not if the oil oil usage you describe is accurate.

I did an oil change on Monday so will check the oil level again tomorrow and report back exactly how much it has lost and how many k's it had done since the oil change. It was dead on the full line after going for a drive later that evening.

Thanks,

George

hi guys,

so I checked the oil level today after doing 500km's and it doesn't look like it has dropped at all despite it blowing smoke as described earlier. The past 2 days it hasn't blown any smoke like it was the other days. Something weird is going on...

No more than 5.5 litres and that's after putting around 500ml - 1L in on Monday morning when I noticed it was very low and went and purchased oil straight away to do the oil change.

Was blowing smoke today when taking off. :S

So I managed to get into contact with the previous owner of the car (who my mate bought it off) and he has told me that it used to puff out some smoke occasionaly on take off when he had it, and burning a bit of oil which is what I am experiencing. According to my calculations, this has been on-going for the past 55,000 k's.

He had the turbo rebuilt as that was thought to be the cause but still did it after that.

Then had a leak down test, comp test and something else tested and the mechanics couldn't find anything wrong.

He also mentioned that the head was replaced at 80,000 k's due to a recall or something?

Any ideas from here onwards?

Thanks,

George

I think I might be on a roll. Time for another :mole:

:bump:

George, did you figure out what the issue was or is it still happening.

Any other suggestions?

I have been wanting to ask this for ages. The word filter has replaced a bad word with the above text.

For the life of me I have no idea what that bad word is, So I have no idea what you trying to say.
