I think we're looking at about $8,000 all up, including labour. Ford are meeting about a quarter of the cost which is more than I had hoped for and am really grateful for.

It's thanks to my mechanic that I have got this help from Ford. He pushed that I am a lifelong Ford owner, that I was left a widow with young children when I bought Vipir, that I love this car more than life itself, that I wrote to the Manager Marketing and CEO to thank them for this car and just what he meant to me at the time of purchase, and that I have struggled to make a new life for my children and myself since my husband's death, and that I know every normal sound my car makes and if I hear a new one, I take it to my mechanic to investigate. I cannot begin to thank him enough and I don't think a lifetime supply of the best Jim Beam would be enough thanks.

I think Ford appreciate that people care for, and love, their cars, and that a little PR goes a long way. The number of people I have told already has reinforced the faith of some who had been skeptical of Ford that they do support owners. And I will be writing to Ford Australia, again, to thank them for their contribution.

Don't baby it too much when you break it in by the way.  Maybe the first 100km or so but then just drive it normally and try to vary the loads on the engine a bit.  I've read it helps the piston rings bed in nicely against the bores and will help it to not use oil/run slightly more efficiently over time.

Must be a weight lifted from your shoulders.  Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here for you and Vipir :)

Yes, I'm stoked. It has been a huge stress which has affected my ability to concentrate and look forward to future events. It has affected my work, my family life, and my sleep.

I guess, in effect, I will have a new car so we should be starting from square one and I will easily do 100km in the first week. Unfortunately that will be pretty much town driving. But come the weekend it'll be pedal to the metal and go for a spin (metaphorically speaking! Having got new tyres, suspension, rear diff bushes and joint cover arms I don't want to be doing real spins and breaking my baby!).

Thank you for all your advice and support. When he comes home I'll take a photo of him and post it.

Nice to hear them showing some compassion for once as they weren't really under any obligation to do so.

All the best for you and the kids hopefully your luck changes from here on.

I blame the dealers more than ford for poor PR tbh. The proof is peoples experiences vary from sh*t to excellent depending on the dealer.

Yeah that's it...dealerships are the face of the brand for 99% of people and generally speaking the workers there are a bit churn and burn...so they don't really care about the impression or even knowing details on the cars they are selling.  They just want to sell and get the cash.  Rare to see a passionate car nut in a car sales yard let alone one that cares for the brand they are selling.

That's a great result.

Bar having everything done for free or winning the lotto, I think this was the best possible option for you, as it panned out.

best possible outcome was a cheaper outcome as $8,000 is NOT cheap, by any means. For a "Long" motor, this is an OK price.

You don't want to see the receipt I have from a ford dealer that rebuilt the motor in my car shortly before I bought it. It's worth 2/3rds of the cars value.

You don't want to see the receipts from the cost of everything done to the car that I purchased... lol

I replaced my engine in my NA XR6 ages ago with a BF F6 engine... it cost about $5,500 removed/fitted. (back in 2008/9 ish). Possibly the cost was reduced slightly because I told them they could keep the engine as a donor engine as it wasn't horribly damaged :)

I hear ya. Unless you can swing spanners or build a motor yourself then you're generally not getting out of anything car related cheaply.

My wife complains when I tell her the cost of maintenance parts like my recent sway bar bushes that were all of $30 lol. I think she'd die if she knew what most people have to pay for parts and labour. Before me she had her dad so she has no idea.
