The only thing under the bonnet that gets water is the windscreen washer reservoir and a quick squirt of water and bicarb to clean the battery terminals. If my mechanic hasn't told me to do it I won't do it.

Vipir Member 35 Member For: 14y 3m 26d Gender: Female Location: Newborough Posted 01/03/16 06:56 AM Author Share Posted 01/03/16 06:56 AM Hi Stever. Yes, I didn't get my baby boy for his fuel efficiency either! Being a bit of a run-around car in town he does chew through the petrol a bit, but if I wanted cheap to run I'd have got the Camry my father told me to get. When I saw the Viper purple I knew I had to get it. I loved the BA Phantom and was disappointed they dropped it for the BF. I do note that the Phantom appears to be more blue in its purple than the Viper. I'd have given him VIPER personalised plates if some bugger hadn't already taken them. That's why I chose VIPIR and not used a 3 to represent the missing E. He is far too dignified for adjusted plates. It's bad enough I had a car seat in him at one stage. The shame! I would have loved a Typhoon too. Not the FG Typhoon - they looked like pandas. But the BF Mark II. Beautiful car. Simply awesome. But insurance is always an issue and my kids are growing and need upkeep and sending them up chimneys for profit is frowned upon, apparently. I love my car. I cannot state it any simpler than that. I see him in the car park at the supermarket or at work and my heart fills with pride. Even after 5 years. When I drive past reflective surfaces like mirrored shop windows, I look at us as we pass. I have respect for the engineering that went into making him and when my then 4yo son etched (ETCHED!!!) his copy of the 50th Anniversary symbol into the paintwork, I went ballistic. That kid, in the 4 years since, has not TOUCHED that car except to open the door. I put the fear of God into him that had it been aimed at the Israelites in the time of Moses they would have toed the party line and followed the 10 commandments! Vipir and I fit each other beautifully. He is a car built to drive and when I purchased him I wrote to the CEO of Ford Australia expressing my appreciation for the privilege of owning such a vehicle. My friends reckon it's a bit odd, but they drive dull cars with no personality. My brooding and surly beast oozes testosterone (it's the Turbo component that makes him a boy) and the leather seats and the stereo and the 19" wheels and the 6 speeds (sometimes I forget what gear I'm in) and just everything about him pleases me. They got the paintwork right, the decals right, the boot shape right (because that's all you'll see of me!)...I could wax lyrical about Vipir and I miss him. I'm going to call my mechanic tomorrow and see how they're going. At least my brand new tyres aren't getting worn out (why do they scrub out on the inside, by the way? It's very expensive to replace them) and my full tank of fuel is still full. And he's not getting additional kms... Anyway, enough about my boy. Seeing the Trend where HE should be makes me feel a bit sad.

Hahahaha! Love it. You make me never want to have kids though with the etching story, oh dear...mine is Lightning Strike which hides things like that more...but it's a boring colour. Had to get Brembos and paint them orange to compensate I'm the same with my car in terms of adoring it...I still turn to look at it as I walk away in carparks, I check it out in windows I drive past too. It's in need of a respray I have to say, the amount of stone chips is crazy...lots of time spent waiting to overtake trucks or copping loose rocks from cars going the other way. One day I'll get it done... PS I agree on the FG F6...too fat looking for my liking. BFII F6 FTW! Oh I almost forgot the question about inside of tyres scrubbing...if you aren't throwing it into corners all the time it's almost certainly the squishy front suspension bushes. The tyres get pushed into a "toe out" position by the weight of the car. I have had Superpro bushes fitted under advice from this forum and it improves that a lot, as well as any brake shudder you might be getting. I strongly suggest getting them done but it will make the car a tiny bit noisier/harsher. Also can be a tad expensive especially if you do the rear as well...don't choose a solid diff bush if you ever get the rear done, they are very noisy. Also don't change the lower front shock mount bush, keep them factory rubber. There's more detail in the suspension workshop area, have a read some time. As there is no carby on Viper I was pointing to my compression problem on no. 5 being a valve stem guide problem. Therefore my post was intended as a positive contribution and I did hope it was received that way
k31th less WHY; more WOT Site Developer 29,061 Member For: 16y 8m 17d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 01/03/16 07:53 AM Share Posted 01/03/16 07:53 AM There is no carby. It's fuel injected. Water into a cylinder IS NOT a good thing. The only way to "pour" water into a barra is to pour it straight down a spark plug hole... You'll blow the spark plug or ruin the spark plug seal (or any electrical damage from the coil back to the coil driver) and then if the water DOES make it into the cylinder you'll cause bore/piston/ring damage. So don't be a dickhead and suggest this is a good idea...

It's just behind that handle you crank to start the car. When pouring water in, make sure you don't get any on the cassette player fuse. Turbofix New Member 4 Member For: 8y 10m Posted 01/03/16 09:01 AM Share Posted 01/03/16 09:01 AM Again sorry if I gave wrong impression!! As xr6t is injected I felt all would recognise pouring water into carby was not possible and therefore I was not suggesting Viper should do so. Also from posts compression problem seems limited to cyl 5.. Therefore is it possible the compression problem is a valve stem guide problem as I experienced? That is what I was endeavouring to contribute. And yes I do see the funny side of you having a bit of fun with my posts

I go down through the gears! No shuddering, thankfully and new brake pads were put in a couple of services ago. I am not a brake toucher. And I don't fling him around corners...I am aware of my driving limitations and do nothing to hurt his handling. And yes, hot cars + kids don't work although 5 years on and they are still not permitted to eat in Vipir and only drink water. If they have to breathe they do it quietly and coughs are either suppressed or I make them cough out an open window (lol). I'm glad I'm not the only one who adores their car. Like I say, my friends drive boring cars and try to convince me Vipir's only a piece of metal but if you've heard of Stephen King's book, Christine, about the car...that's us.

Your comments are making me look stuff up so I am not so ignorant about my car. As I said earlier, I am mechanically ignorant and the more comments I read, the more research I do and I will stun my poor mechanic with my knowledge!
