Aftermarket externally venting BOVs are illegal to use in a street application. There are some BOVs out recently that are adjustable, so they can vent internally and externally. The item being setup on your car is not illegal, but the sound it 'can' make is an offence according to the EPA.

The one in the photo may be illegal, but it may have a plumb back ability, therefore it may be fine.

An internally venting BOV will not give the same level of volume of the whoosh or chatter or pssssht that you might hear on cars with loud externally venting units, but you can still hear the quiet soung of pressure release, on my manual anyway.

Could anyone recommend a good BOV that'll 1) be 'mosty' legal 2) allow for adjustments...

Also, where from?

Cheers,

Pretty happy with mine - install was a bit of a squeeze ...

Stealth FX from Go Fast bits - $544 delivered overnight.

replaces existing bov using the factory pipes and is fully adjustable - from off to on and 17 levels in between.
