Settlements are quite addictive. Wait to you have some raider attacks, funnily enough they dont seem to occur until you have some decent defense up. Its fun watching your defence and settlers in action. Then loot everything and gear up your settlers.

I still haven't had a chance to play this again. But from what you fellas are on about I should give it another go.

Last time I got as far as having to go to some village and pick something up. There was. Some gun fight thing going on and I got shot lots and didn't have a weapon so I cracked the sh*ts and quit.

hahahaha fark you guys made me giggle like a little school girl.

There are guns everywhere mate. you don't even need a gun, you can use a baseball bat or knife.

The catch is that you have to pick up the item. on the PC you press E to pickup items which end up in your inventory.

you need to press I to view your inventory in your pip boy.

you then click on the item under weapons and choose what weapon to equip. for first time players, it is hard to understand where to equip items.

Same thing applies for NPC.

If you trade with them and give them sh*t to carry(especially when you have to much) it frees your inventory and fills theirs.

So really you have to inventories that you can use to hoard sh*t.

At the same time, while you in that screen giving the NPC stuff, you can actually use T to make the NPC equip the Armour or weapons.

Comes in handy when you give your NPC good clothing to protect them and also good weapons to kill enemies with. ;)

Note a bit of warning to you guys, don't go crazy like me and have 17 settlements.

They are worse than babies and always need to be maintained.

If you leave your settler beacon on, you will attract a lot of people sometimes.

you need resources to make beds and provide food and water.

Before taking on a settlement and putting up a settlers beacon, check your resources first.

now 2 days 3 hours in....

guys if you want to wear the power armor there are def perks to it-

-carrying capacity is increased A LOT- unless your legs get damaged too much.

- when you jump off anything higher than 1 story it makes a big impact sound and shakes the ground (awesome).

-you can jump off ANYTHING- I always jump off the prydwen to get to the airport below lol. if you explore all the areas in the prydwen you find a terminal that is not linked to the rest of the systems so the boys can have some after hours fun. there is mention of a falling competition: who can drop off the highest structure and walk away. havent followed this on through yet though.

- when you cross rivers you just walk on the bottom as if your on solid ground- a bit slower though. also air is not an issue.

-you can wear 2 armors- what ever you have on (so far) and then the power armor over the top. im currently wearing the 'silver shroud' (radio drama series hero in goodneighbor) outfit under the power armor.

-there is a perk you can get (I dont have it yet) where you can sprint into enemies and knock them down- ive encountered enemies that I notice seem to be positioned JUST right to take advantage of this. one being a protectron that stands in front of an open door on a monorail 6 floors up.... another a glowing deathclaw that climbs up the side of a building onto a roof you are standing on....

-if you find 'hot rodding' magazines they unlock custom paint schemes for your power armor- id love to have flames on mine...

-you can loot other power armor you find in the commonwealth for upgrades- raider bosses often wear them, but modified...

there you have it- go find fusion cores and enjoy!

Good stuff mate. Alot of that stuff I knew, but have forgotten to mention.

I saved this just for you guys. instead of getting it from the other locations, I decided to upload it to my IMGUR account

I have printed this out on A3 for myself today and will be using it to mark of places I have been to and to check for magazines + bobble heads.

Quick mention in regards to the power suit, there will come a time where you can mod it and have increased capacity for carrying stuff.

I heard something along the lines of having pockets in the outside lining for more capacity.

However I do not see the point to this if you have Strong Back, which is under the Strength Special at Level 6(as per chart below) you can fast travel when you are carrying to much.

I have all 4 starts on the strong back and it is a pain when you have too much, but as soon as you are out of a building or secluded area and you can fast travel, booom you can empty your inventory out.

In regards to power runs and knocking enemies over, if you have a look at the chart above and look at Strength level 10, you will see that perk.

However your strength special needs 10 stars to it. Is that worth it?

Thanks for the tip about not running out of air when using the power armor and under water. didn't know that one.

The last two sessions I have been using the power armor everywhere. From 17 cores, I am down to 13 and I ain't liking this fact.

I have built a bobble head stand at Sanctuary to store my bobble heads. now I got to figure out how to store my magazines.

Sentrys also drop fusion cores, 2 usually. A tough fight, even in power armor. I just strategically lay landmines and kite them, they move quickly so you will need to sprint to do it successfully. When they get to a low enough health they shutdown for a sec and their fusion core covers open up on their back which is their vulnerability. Then its hammertime, job done.

Kite-ing is easily the the best way to abuse the mechanics of AI in any game, even some dumb human players will fall for it. For those who dont know how it works its basically using line of sight to make AI take a path you want, like flying a kite. Do it right and you will take minimal damage while the dumb ass runs over all your mines.

Works well in other games that have damage over time mechanics. Apply DOT, get out of LOS run around, back in LOS to apply DOT again, rinse and repeat.

Can also kite to a choke point like a door way, have your crossairs at head height...easy. Some AI is smarter than that in certain situations.

I have applied this Technic to bigger super mutants, eg at Fort Strong.

The huge mutant there is hard to kill especially when he is throwing those big boulders.

If you try and fight him at close range, good luck.

What I did is I used a sniper rifle to attract the attention of the normal mutants from the other side of the bridge.

I hid behind the bridge pillars and as soon as they were walking on the bridge, I just sniped them out.

This was while hiding from the big mutant behind the pillar so he could not get me.

I must admit that I have not seen a sentry yet, but I am sure that one of my 5 quests left, will direct me in that direction sooner or later.

The NPC of choice lately has been Currie.

I have gone through the quests to get her into a synth body. I then did a whole bunch of wasteland wondering and she leveled up few times and I got to flirt with her as well.

Got some sort of lover perk where she sleeps with you when you lay down in a bed.

At this point she makes sure that your stimp packs provide more health than normal, so I can't complain about that.

I am however now tempted to swap her out for Piper from Diamond city.
