Thought I'd start a thread to get some opinions on how frequently you maintain your turbz. Obviously everyone would have slightly differing opinions, but would be interesting to see how often 'maintenance' items are being done. It would be good to know the Ford recommended intervals and then the 'tuned car' intervals.

Here's my list so far: (if I have missed other important things, let me know!)

  1. Power Steering Fluid
  2. Diff Oil
  3. Coolant Flush
  4. Brake Fluid Flush
  5. ZF Transmission Service (Genuine Lifeguard 6)
  6. Throttle Body Clean
  7. Injector Clean (On car - injectors + fuel rail)
  8. Timing chain/ plastic retainers (NFI if that's correct terminology)

Here's my car so far (stock - 136,000kms (owned since 83,000km)):

  1. Once @ 90k (been lazy but assume should be every 2 yr/40,000km)
  2. Once @ 90k (again unsure but some do every 10k but guessing Ford would say every 2 yr/40,000km)
  3. Once @ 90k (assume 3yr/60,000km)
  4. 3 times so far (assume its 2yr/40,000km)
  5. Once @ 90k (plan on doing it every 50k km)
  6. Once @ 90k (unsure how often it should be?)
  7. Once @ 110k (assume this is every 3yrs/50,000km)
  8. Never yet - although heard the plastic retainers should be every 5yr/100k and chain every 10yr/200k?

Obviously haven't included things like minor service, wheel alignment, boost solenoid, earls filter (as these happen every service)....just would like to know any other maintenance things that should be done?

I think this will vary greatly depending on how the car is driven.

A thrashed stock car could well need more maintenance

than a modded car treated with a modicum of mechanical sympathy

Yeh didn't really think about that :/

If no one else can give rough indications, I will just update later for myself when I chat to Ford at the next service (or I'll email him before then). At least that way I would have the recommended intervals which can change slightly depending on how harsh you are on the car :P

Learn to do all the fluids yourself and you will be able to change all the major fluids once a year, for the price of one ford service

I do my engine oil every 5k

Diff oil every 10k

Brake fluid once a year

Power steering I flushed it once when my car hit 100k

ZF tranny I did one service when I bought the the car at 100k and now I'm about to do another with gulf western at 130k

Coolant every few years, no real need to go nuts

Injector cleans that you put in the tank are a waste of time in my eyes, so don't bother

Fuel filter once a year, as they are cheap insurance

Throttle body clean every engine oil change

Same as waste gate solenoid with wd40

Air filter once a year

Also

Yeh saw that group of pics on fagbook. Laughed at the snow tyre one lol

Also cheers for taking the time to reply :)

I wish I could learn to do stuff myself...I just know I'll make a mistake or stuff something up and I'm not willing to take the risk. But at least you've given me some good indications

Just do what I do - take forever.

Seven hours last night to replace front and rear suspension on my taxi. That should have been two to three hours.

Started at midnight, finished at 7am, got to sleep at 10am and woke up at 4:30pm. Tired tonight.

I should rent myself out to the CIA for the purpose of interrogating terrorists. Make 'em watch me work on a car for a while, and they'll tell you everything.

Cmon peter farkin hell, do I need to do a photo essay for you on the basics. It really is easy man and will save you lots of monies.

I did oil, filter, general things like turbo filter and tb clean ect. Plus fixed the windscreen washers. All in about an hour for less than 100 bucks.

How much do you think you would pay for that?
