Rev Limit

Now that I have a little over 5000k's on the car I've let it rev out a couple of times. What I have noticed is that the damn thing just keeps pulling!! In all, and I mean ALL of my previous cars (Non-Turbo's) I have always noticed the power peak, and you can change gears before the redline... but this thing is totally different

What is a pain is having no visible redline, or power plateau at the higher revs. what I've noticed is it pulls, and pulls, and just as your about to change gears, you realise you have left it 5ms to late and the rev limiter comes on nearly throwing you through the front windscreen, by which time you have changed to the next gear playing the game all over again

What is everyone's thoughts on the rev limiter, and what method do you use to change gears at the right time (SSS or Manual)

I change at 5250 if im getting really up it, ive never taken it to the limit, cars only got 500 kms on it. and ive only been to that 5250 about 3 or 4 times, I find changing at 3500 fast enough and let it ride on the torque if im wanting to move like a freight train.

l know what you mean about the rev limiter Mal.

In my (limited so far) acceleration trials l have found the car pulls best to about 5 grand and then drops off a little after that, so now l usually change at around 5 grand as it seems to pull better than reving right out to redline and avoids hitting the limiter.

Mine has done about 5000 k's now, and I had the "through the windscreen" experience a few times, it is just incredible how effortless this engine is at pulling to (missing) redline.

Previous Fords I always knew where they were, but this beast is different!

I use the power mode if I really want to put my foot down, and I found it to be excellent at changing gear while maintaining the momentum. I try to keep my eyes on the blurry image of the road ahead, when doing full accelleration trials, and do not want to be distracted by having to look at the rev. counter constantly.

Sorry you guys with manual gearboxes, but this is IMO the best and most efficient way to accellerate the XR6T for us normal mortals :D

drive it flat out often enough and you'll get used to the rev limit and when to change gears. Just one thing to keep in mind is that the car increases its revs faster in first alittle slow in 2nd and so on, and the tacho is alittle slow in actually showing the correct revs in the lower gears when your accelerating flat out. what this means is that the rev limit appears to change depending on the gear your in and where your accelorator is. The tacho will show 5k in firts on the limiter, 5250 in second and so on for the rest of the gears. Just something to whatch for when your playing around!

Just curious whats the rev limiter set to on the XR6-T? On my AUII redline and rev limiter is 5750rpm.

Its around 6000 rpm, but I read somewhere that it changes depending on driving conditions, so I think 5800 - 6250.

This is apparantly why Ford did not make a redline.

Hope to have been of help :geek:

It's not a fixed rev limit, and that's the problem... the bloody thing just sneaks up on you while you have a huge G-Force grin on your face, thinking ... *just a little more.. just a little more... whoops to far*

Since the Red Line is "dependant on driving conditions" does the SSS in Sports Performance mode hold it to red line taking these varying factors into account.

To clarify - does the SSS Perf mode change at the same RPM all the time ort does it change its shift pattern based on the same criteria that the red line changes?

I find in mine the best time to do a gear chege is at 5800rpm then anymore forget it u lost the race the thing is incredible though the limiter should be around 7300rpm as it keeps puliing I wonder what times we would have seen if there was no limiter
