Guys,

Sometimes when I give it the boot and then back off suddenly I can feel diff backlash.

Is this normal?

The car has been jacked up and there is a bit of play when you turn the tail shaft.

As in there is a bit of play before the diff engages and turns the wheels.

Car is still under warranty, not sure what Ford would do to fix the problem short of changing the diff...

Lol theres normal and theres f*cked. Was having sus at mine last night, roll on 3rd at 60k's squeeze gently to WOT throttle and no matter how gently I lift at around 3000rpm which I think is about 80k, massive clunk. I bet im going to find a split bush or maybe even a broken bolt it sounds pretty violent. A little in a ZF equipped car is normal...

I reckon I lucked out and got the wrong end of the "within tolerances" of each part that causes the backlash/clunk.

Even get it at times while sitting on 100km/h on the freeway on cruise control when it comes on/goes off the throttle :S

Been checked - all is within spec

It can be pretty damn violent when driving spiritedly - only solution is to change the driving style to not come off the gas too quickly

My experience too.

Give it heaps and back off too fast at the wrong time...BANG

I'm amazed I haven't snapped something, I've done it hundreds of times.

Got tailshaft coupling and centre bearing/uni joint replaced recently which really helped...for about two weeks/1000km.

Nah - not on taking off - it's when you load up the rear then release.

Accelerating then taking the foot off the pedal
