Got friends that game on 3mbps...though it is MMOs so not as reaction based as FPS games. If speeds are terrible and I need an 89MB patch I will swap to 4G phone for a quick fix Have gotten 30mbps+ on speedtest phone app there before as well. From what I understand that I should run CAT6 if I can rather the CAT5. I'd rather spend the money and do it right first time and not have to worry about it again down the track. Data cable should be a minimum of 55mm away from any electrical cable. What happens or what do you do when running to entertainment area? Also do I call someone in just to run the data and let my electrician focus on everything else.? I have a security company coming in for home security alarm should I get them to run my data cable. Anyway here are some pics from the past 2 weeks because nothing was done at all last week. Roof The condition of my Alfresco doors/track Scaf forms the rest of the house ATM not much to look at. Looking good despite the setbacks man. Can't help with cabling advice (aside from CAT6 not costing much over CAT5 wholesale so make sure they don't sting you heaps more for it), I'll be dropping my own cat6 in the existing conduits. That'll be fun at first but I suspect I'll have a change of opinion after an hour in the roof space with the air con and insulation etc... Here's a quick pic showing 30m of both styles of cable ready to go with plugs, from our wholesaler. Pro cablers would get better prices I imagine. You should have separate outlets for power and data and the cable runs should be seperated. Between the wall and the tv etc? the 1 or 2 meter run ive never found to cause an issue. the reason data cable comes twisted, and in most cases shielded as well is to stop interference. dont go wrapping the network cable around the power cable to your TV, but otherwise should be fine Part 2. ALL the data guys will say get a data guy, but a decent electrician should have no issue running in data cable correctly. not setting up a server room running 50 computers.... I might be a little bias as im industrial background and have had a bit to do with data/fibre networks.
