It is not sisalation Lennox.

Sisalation is a moisture barrier, about 1mm thick.

This insulation I have under my roof material is about 12mm thick, and is an R rated insulation (can,t remember the rating number)

When we had it installed I was very dubious if it would actually do anything at all, and thought at the time, I can always put insulation back on the ceiling if it doesn't work.

That was 5 years ago.

here it is on the back of my garage door

Yeh I know the stuff.. I thought that was called sisalation? It definitely works anyway cos the use it up in port Hedland in a lot of houses and it's frequently 45+ Celsius there.. I noticed it while crawling through roof spaces as an apprentice haha. Much nicer than crawling through insulation batts.

Just curious as to the noise difference because when I bought my house there was no insulation on the ceiling and it was noisy as f*ck then I chucked in all the r4 batts and it killed all the noisey reverbyness of the house

we do notice a bit of hollowness when all the doors and windows are closed for aircon.(makes the suround sound system awesome)

90% of the time all windows and doors are open and there is no hollowness then.

we have crimsafe window screens, doors and sliders which at the time was a huge cost

Now we are reaping the rewards as we can leave the house open all the time which is a huge benefit for natural airflow and not worry about thieves (or mozzies)

Progress FTW Pixy!

We are at plate height, so basically the bricks are done and we got a $68k bill to send on to the bank hahaha.

Currently working out a problem with the ensuite window that requires a new frame and bricks to be taken back out again...long story short the window was installed at the wrong height but it will be all fixed soon hopefully. It does mean a delay while they get the new frame though.

Also found out that being a BAL19 rated house, we already have "sarking" underneath the roof sheet metal already so that's a win for lower aircon usage.

Steve has your windows gone in yet?

I'm wonder how do we tell if the windows are fire/BAL19 rated.

Our house is BAL19 north, south and west and BAL12.5 east. I have also paid for Low-E glass on the north and east windows.

Im hoping we get a certificate ensuring what windows we have from the manufacture.

No glass in, no. Until we get the new window frame fitted I doubt they will bother. Somewhere at home I have a PDF document that breaks down the various BAL levels...cannot recall what they specify so no idea what to check.

Seems I can't edit my 5 minute old post (maybe limit on number of times edited?) but you can see the incomplete brickwork on North face for the bathroom window.  Brickies are sorting it out next weekend apparently.  The new window frame is at site already, you can see it leaning against the South wall.
