whats all the hate for evaps?

mums works great, dumps the water regulary and flushes itself out at the end, closes itself in winter.

it does struggle when its like 40+ but to be expected when it essentially sucks in hot air and has to cool it.

im out of that game now anyways got sick of people who didnt want to spend money to maintain them, then complain the cost to repair was 4 times the cost to service it because it blew up.

So, what you're saying is, the actual time that you need it the most, it fails.

Evaps drop the air temp 10 degrees

I agree a/c is better but for the price to run Evap they are pretty bloody good

Evap cost $20 all summer

Bit different to a/c, I don't care how efficient or zoned it is

Insulation and design are the best you can do.

A large 3 phase(cheaper) unit ducted is the way to go IMO. In QLD you just say I want 3 phase and it gets terminated at your house for free. As long as its in the street and in most cases it is.

it struggles to cool me when it matters the most, ie: it failed to do the job it was intended for. LOL

Definitely when building for long term living it works out more economical to have the design of the house accounting for better energy consumption and cooling properties

Double glazing

Good insulation and a good design of the house counts for so much

I know of a house in the Adelaide hills which uses aircon about 6 days a year

And Adelaide is freaking hot all summer

The layout and design and insulating were massive features and a fair cost

But actually somewhat worth it in power costs

This guy also has roller shutters and sprinkler for fire proofing

Double glazing and the whole roof and all structural timbers painted with fire proof paint before construction

He's an engineer and very switched on I might add

Have met the brickies on site a few times now, brought them some food the other day and a slab of beer and couple bottles of coke today to say thanks. Fingers crossed it helps get a nicer finish.

So farking keen to move in...99.99% sure ADSL is in the area which is amazing given location, seller today said said they upgraded something in the lines on Toodyay Rd when it was subdivided. I guess I need a finished house before I can get the phone on though and reserve my port...he mentioned lack of ports could be a problem...

They reckon they will be done Thursday!
