Sure it's not there just to prevent the roof spreading out?

I.e <---------> (that way)

edit: quite often have thin beams like that (but round steel ones) in factories/warehouses/sheds etc

Ha that's just like my guts when I give it a smack like that!

I did a bunch of weed spraying for 3 corner jacks today. The back has about 1400m2 and the front has about 150m2 that has various amounts of infestation. The rest of the property is house, shed, driveway and unaffected areas.

Apparently they can lie dormant for 8 years give or take so hopefully I'll have them all gone in 5 years.

Spoke to the current owner and yeah, seems like it's to stop it spreading out if big wind came through or something. Personally, still don't think they'd do fark all...but whatever, if it gets approved I may just look at adjusting it or something later. Looks significantly average compared to previous. So I'd probably look at getting an engineering alternative at some point. But whatever, as long as I'm not potentially liable for the council telling me to rip it down that'll do for now.

I reckon he is right. You would expect a fair bit of flex in a length like that. But that won't affect its intended purpose.

Maybe I should reword that second sentence...

I feel like you should remain quiet if you are present while it is being inspected.
