How much does running Data cable through the whole house cost?/help? Or would you just use WIFI booster?

What are you aiming for? Hard wired is ALWAYS better than wifi. no interference, better speeds, no black spots. Im slightly bias due to gamer who wants the best ping/no lag/fibre cnnection and I can do it myself. Most people wont notice the difference but depends on the application.

As for cost - CAT 6 ~$.60 a meter, $20 for wall plates and plugs, ~$80 an hour (ask Fluff or Jet, ive never been a contractor or hired one), ~3 hours to do a couple of rooms...

I was thinking hard wire also but just double checking.

Date would be to TV's, Foxtel, Computer and gaming. My son is a gamer and hates grans wifi and net speed. He is also on about the lag.

Oh and home security.

Would you run it into each of the kids rooms and spare room?

Price is so I can work it out when the time comes.

need a network switch to run to each room, cant daisy chain like power.

And depends on where you install them. if you can pick external walls you can throw cables down the cavity. Internal walls will require chasing out, plastering and painting wall. unless its a timber house, then you have to have a special drill bit, lift tiles/tin and drill through..... sooooo many reasons I dont do domestic work

"oh it would be easy to install a power point just here right?".

Pixy don't think that hardwiring everything=fast net though, if the line speed to the house is sh*t (ie you're miles away from the exchange like me) then you're screwed :(

Reminds me of the el cheapo set up I did to my folks home.bought 20mtr lengths of cat cable.we drilled holes in wall fed the cable thru the roof into the rooms. Made it look nice by putting blank plates on the wall then running the end of the cable out.connected thru router in main room.done.cost nothing at all. Parents are cheap so they were very happy.

There are nicer ways of doing it but...
