Is there any reason why Ford decided to position the stock airbox on the other side of the engine?

Think what the donor model is...the XT. Intake goes right to the throttle body, no crossing over the engine needs to be done. Only exhaust pipes are on the battery side. Cheaper to shoehorn in the extra pipes than it is to change the design/production line for a few measly turbos I'm guessing.
