Hi,

I know there is a zillion threads on this but I havnt seen any quoting DB readings.

I recently put straight pipes in my BFII XR6T.

The ADR 83/00 DB limit for the car is 90 decibels at 3750 rpm with the microphone place 0.5 metres on plane back from the tailpipe at 45 degrees to the outside of the vehicle.

My results are:

Stock Exhaust: 83 db at 4000 rpm, 85 db at 3750 is the cars official signature noise level so mine is perhaps a little quiet but ive never tested any others

With the delete pipe: 93 db at 4000 rpm

At the time of doing the readings I thought it was at 4000 rpm, I have since taken the straight pipes off because I didn't like the note so I cant retest that easily.

Anyway the fine for 1 - 5 db over the limit is $200 - $400, pehaps taking the reading at 3750 rpm would get the reading down to 90 or 91 db but im not sure.

As for the sound if your thinking about buying a delete pipe for $150 and having a go then yeah its way louder, easy to do and its pretty cool, startup sounds great, idle is kinda sh*tty bit of a truck sound, the sound when your putting around car parks ect is sh*tty too think F250, booting it up a hill or from low down sounds pretty tough and at cruising highway speeds there isnt any crazy drone although it is louder.

So basically it might be just legal but is more likely just ever so slightly over the DB limit.

If your young and looking for sound on the cheap then yeah do this.

If you still want to be respected amongst responsible adults and still have bigger sound then get hotdogs put in or buy a cat back.

Lastly dont expect any noticable performance increase, on its own this doesnt really do anything except add noise.

In my bf auto I put twin hot dogs in the centre pipes, stops it sounding like a tractor and when I had to have it tested (highway patrol enforced) it came in at 89db
