It looks like the Euro 4 cat may have a larger cross sectional area, so it may flow better than the previous one.

It could also be more restrictive, due to other internal differences.

Has anyone tested flow of the Euro 4 cat vs the previous FG turbo cat?

Has a restrictor ring in it to bottleneck the flow but you can cut it out

Some tuners say you can make like 330rwkw with the restrictor ring out

Mine did not agree. So unsure as to who is correct.

Good point Lennox.

I had thought that the restrictor ring was in the start of the next section of exhaust, but I think you are right and it is in the end of the cat section.

Obviously I would be interested in flow comparison with the restrictor ring removed.

My thoughts are that this may be similar to the F6 injectors and intercoolers - not a huge upgrade, but likely to be available pretty cheap (eg someone doing an upgrade gives the unwanted stock parts to a mate), so could be worth swapping.

Get rid of the ring and gut the cat. that's what I got done to my stock exhaust.

Biz,

That is a great answer for outright power on a budget, but not so great for emissions/legality

Jules,

Again a good answer - venom is known to make good products- but

A. is going to cost

B. it is going to look non standard (which may lead to being tested)

C. Which of the products 4", 4.5", 5" and which cell per square inch configuration 100, 200 or 400

D. Assuming the biggest/best flowing (5" 100 cell), will it still pass emission testing?

Even with the restrictor ring removed, I would guess that the euro 4 cat would be at least as clean as the previous cat which had no restrictor ring.

Flow information would give a definite answer about one being less restrictive than the other.

If you're worried about cost, emissions, legality and looking standard then maybe modifying cars isn't really your thing

I can see where you are coming from, but different people have different priorities.

Some like "bling" some like "sleeper", some like "big budget" some like "bang for buck"

Each to their own.
