Hey guys,

Just picked myself up a fg2 xr6 turbo ute in Octane, Ute has about 20thousand kms on it and im looking at doing a few mods, Im Aiming for around 330-340kw.

Im just about to order a Plazmaman turbo side intake, battery relocation kit, and Plazmaman stage 2 cooler, and was wondering can I change all these things over at home and still drive it without the need of a tune?

My next step would be bigger injectors, was looking at the Bosch 968's? But I know they are a few years old now and was wondering if theres anything better out now days? Would I be best to upgrade the fuel pump also? Would probably go with the PW double pump system they have for sale.

Would most likely be getting it tuned at Bluepower in melbourne.

Am I better off getting the Injectors, Fuel pumps, XCAL, valve springs through the tuner? Or would I save a buck if I went to the companies and bought the stuff separately and then went to the tuner and got them to put everything together? I don't have an issue doing anything I can that can be done before requiring a tune, as I have access to a full workshop setup with car hoists etc. So What I'm getting at basically is what can be done before a tune needs to be done before I drive it.

Thanks guys

Howdy bro nice buy.

You can but I would wait until you have booked your car in to get tune and do it a few days before. I wouldnt drive it to long before a tune.

Injectors get ID1000 (KPM) If you can get it done all together save money on getting the car retuned all the time because of new mods. Coolers have a look a Jonny Tig one that's getting a great name and worth looking into.

Tuners PitLane mate there great and highly recommended service is tops and look after forum members.

With those mods you have planned should get you around those numbers.

Keep us updated and post pics.

Good luck mate.

Didn't think the stock turbo pushed more that 330rwkw on 98 (fully maxed too)...

No mention of exhaust upgrades which is generally needed to push past 320? (high flow cat at a minimum).

My advice....IF you have ability to do everything yourself, then do it all the day or 2 before your tune...BUT you need to factor in cost of tow to tuners (or renting trailer and having mate help you out).

Option two is get tuner to do the major things (and source from them cause usually price includes supply/fitting and ends up being only a little bit more than what's available online - with any future issues being sorted through your tuner afterwards I.e. faulty parts/warranty claims, etc).

For comparo sake...my list will be venom cat, plaz stage 2 cooler, plaz turbo side + battery relo, x4 + tune, PW old school single 044 surge (bought second hand), 1000cc injectors from tuner, and probs valve springs from tuner (if mine are poo poo cause bulk kms done)...expecting 310-320 on 98. Don't get too caught up with figures though....think BPR have a harsh reading dyno too?

Oh and pics ;) love octance with the mkii fronts lol

Will probably go for the turbo flapper mod also, exhaust wise Id also be happy to upgrade. Have a mate selling a xforce mild steel turbo back system for cheap as he got the wrong one, but was originally wanting to go stainless. I wanted to go with the plaza stage 2 cooler but am thinking about the PW stepped cooler now only because if I ever want to return it to stock to sell, I won't have the front end all cut up.

Really I suppose I need to go and speak with the tuner and work out a plan somehow.

Yeh dude....pick tuner first and then work out a plan of attack. If you have the ability to do stuff yourself then definitely do it...but you should only really do it on stuff you buy second hand or extremely cheap...things like injectors for example; our tuner here charges like $700ish for supply and fitted. When online you can buy for maybe $600ish, but then you need to pay tuner $200 to fit them and end up in a worse position with no support if sh*t fails :P But obviously make sure the part isn't going to cause havok if you put it on before tune I.e. injectors, high flow cat, bigger cooler with turbo side is apparently a no no.

If you are close to Pitlane....they are highly regarded on here (ratter posts frequently and knows his sh*t and will give honest advice without taking shortcuts). Tuner choice is super important ;)

As pixy said above....this Johnny Tig bloke is all the rage ATM....apparently he is working on a stepped design (that will isolated every bit of space available) and his welding is hella pro. In WA I'm not so fussed about chopping the car too much....and not sure if you can even see the bracket thing that gets cut without taking the front bar off (I.e. might look on my lunch break to see if I can see it through the gap near bonnet latch). Didn't realise you said "about to order" rather than "already bought" in OP lol

Also a rule that hasn't really been followed by much on here lately; is that there's no need to quote a post that is directly above you ;)
