Purchased a bf xr6 turbo couple days ago for dirt cheap , owner did say mechanically a1 , took it for a test drive hit boost , car spluttered and backed off , owner at the time went purple faced and said iv never stepped on it for ahwile I dont know , kinda true kinda not yet he was a elderly bloke , I purchased it anyway always wanted a xr6 turbo , using it for 2 days now iv relized it moves alot harder then my my uncles ba xr6 turbo before it hits cut out of some sort , after a couple times of hard boost and it cutting out engine light came on ,

Today got a boost gauge hooked it up , got my brother to hang on to it and boost hit up to a high as 11 psi and I backed off as I didnt want to do anymore damage if I have done any ,

Please some one tell me somewhere to start ???????

best bit of advice is not to spend any money until you have either done it yourself or had somebody do some diagnostics on it. Way to many people follow every bit of advice that others give them and end up spending a heap of money of things that were not needed

Agree with Mick. About the only thing to check visually is that the boost control solenoid hose that runs to the turbo is not off.

I left mine off accidentally one day after doing the cleaning/lubing of the solenoid and could tell straight away what was wrong when it boosted up way too fast. The wastegate never opens to bleed boost.

My stock BF had the same problem, the cause was a leak in the waste gate actuator diaphragm.

It went much harder than stock till it hit the boost cut out, and then it was limp mode...

I found that loosening the clamps on the inlet hose at the throttle body kept the boost just under the cut out...(this was a temporary solution till the waste gate actuator was changed)

Havent hade time to check it out yet will do on the first day I have off , exactly whats happening to mine hits boost cut runs like a bag of poo and a couple secounds later back to normal , did this cause any damage to your car ?? And did u have to take the turbo off to change the actustor because as far as iv seen its in a *beep* of a spot ?

I was told by a reputable tuner that you really couldn't do much damage to the car because it would it go into limp mode (car was stock standard)...but to be honest I didn't go around planting it, when it was in this condition...

I did get the tuner to change the actuator, and I was told turbo came off to change the actuator...
