Hi guys,

I have a 50th anniversary FG XR6 Turbo which I bought 2nd hand. The side and rear glass are all marked as "tinted safety glass". Does anyone know what this means, e.g. is it a film, is it just colored glass, is it standard, is it a factory option? The reason I ask is I'm keen to know what (if any) UV protection it's giving me and my family. An example of one of the markings is as follows:

(Ford)

(E4) (S)

TEMPERED

43R-000113

AS2 DOT-481 M248-1

TINTED SAFETY GLASS

10- G ....

Thanks,

Caleb.

No real idea but I think I read somewhere it's in the glass itself, maybe higher lead content or something.

I assume it's privacy glass, just slightly darkened? It's in the glass, not a film that is applied. Most modern cars have it these days.

If so there is very little if any UV protection or reduction in heat transmission. You can either tint over it with normal tint (be careful about going too dark with tint on tint if you want to stay legal) or you can tint with a clear UV film.

That code is is the exact same on my windows

I have tint so can't really say what it's like without it but it sure feels normal, not hard to see out my windows

Maybe goto a ford dealer and check out a new car that you know is not tinted and see if it has different code on the window
