I had the ATR sports 2 on mine at one stage and they were shocking in the wet. It was a nightmare especially going around roundabout.

Tooo much skating for my liking.

I have since moved onto the Invo's and I rave about them, cause they are awesome in the wet and grip well.

However the amount of KM's I get out of them is hurting the wallet. I am about to swap the rears out and it has been less than a year.

I am considering other tires now and I have asked for quotes from the guys at Continental in Malaga(on beach road).

The continentals might be next on the list.

Think the message here is don't skimp on quality...

that's what pissed me off the most....I ask the tyre dude and said will the average person notice a difference between pt-722 and fk453 and he said straight out no.

I then later found out the UTQG was 110 higher (I.e. 410 vs 300) which means less grip....

The worst part was the ones I chose in 275/35/18 were $360 each vs. FK453 at $410 each....so I wasn't actually skimping that much

From a lot of reading of various threads it seems that the Achilles ATR2's or Nitto Invo's are the go without pending huge $ but am still unsure of a few things.

1) I'm in Perth and Google wasn't very good for finding local sellers of either of those, anyone comment on where they got them in Perth? (I'm NOR).

Achilles tyres are crap in the wet.

I'm currently using Federal AZ01 tyres on my taxi. Holy sh*t, these things grip in the wet. Best wet weather tyre that I've come across so far, even better than the Neuton NT5000s that I used to rave about a few years ago.

I'll have to put the taxi wheels on my 353rwkw Tornado on a wet night and see how they handle with that much power in the wet.

@PTR_NITRO_FG If that is the widest on these rims then so be it, just nice to know it for sure so I know what I can get

As far as the harshness/tramlining I thought it may be the case but not ever having used such low profile before I wasn't sure if that was the cause!

The speedo being out isn't a surprise and compared to my MC is not far out and I'm aware that they need to have them read over actual due to ADR's but figured if a slight change in profile would correct it without issue then why not

@Nitrofgxr6t Yeah I realise that I shouldn't go dirt cheap on tyres as I ride a MC and know the need for decent rubber, plus I've tried going cheap on my old EL 5L and it wasn't worth it either in lost grip and lost km's and with a more powerful vehicle I want decent rubber. I'm not into drags or doing heaps of burnouts etc but also don't have an issue with giving it a squirt every so often and having it slide

Saying that I do quite a lot of km's so want reasonable life as well as grip without costing an arm and a leg so don't expect miracles

@masda74 Was it Malaga that you got your Invo's, roughly how many km's did they last and what was the $ if you don't mind?

The LUX rims are the best shape for the Falcons - bar none

That's my predicament - love the rims, but need to swap them out to go wider or to go bigger brakes

Not ready to swap them out = that's how good the rims look.

Tram-lining is a combo of tyres and suspension - change one or the other for something equally as decent and the problem will/may evaporate.

All speedo's are out - 99% of people don't know and trust in what the car says. Falcon isn't doing too bad by being @ 100km/h SPEEDO vs 96km/h GPS

You won't do wrong with Innvo's - they don't wear out quicker than you push them and hold real world driving as long as you'd expect.(and also keep grip in the wet)

Lasted longer than my OEM Dunlops did

I have the nitto Invos and rate them had continental sport contacts previously and there just as good if not better but if you think the invos wear out quickly the contis are worse. Best thing to do is shop around ul be surprised at how much prices can fluctuate between particular tyres just bcoz one particular tyre was cheaper a month ago dosent mean it's the same way now

All euro tyres did for me was scratch my rims. Really annoyed as I specifically asked him if he can't change my tyres without marking my wheels I wouldn't bother. He advised me all would be good. I won't be going there again

My tyre shop now is west state tyres Bentley. True professionals. They only fit tyres for me. I buy them all on ebay from the east

Go invo. Best grip , good price and low noise. Stick with 245/35/19. Get them from taleb tyres

I'm an Invo lover, in summer the ATR Sport 2 were great value ($179ea fit and balance for 18s) and held my 300 odd rwkw well enough but once they wear a little bit the wet weather grip disappears. Summer only tyre for sure and dangerous if someone else is driving in the wet who isn't aware. I experienced the slide on roundabouts at low low speeds too, unable to take off with more than a tiny bit of pedal in the wet etc...this means inability to confidently pull out into traffic in damp conditions.

Have just recently replaced the rear Invos (great grip even when they are past the wear markers, just can't expel water any more plus illegal...). I have tried Michelin Pilot Sport 3's this time, on special $250ea in 245/40/18 fitted. Tyre shop guy took a while to convince me to try them, I googled reviews while in his shop hahaha. Anyway, slowed to a crawl then gave it full throttle in some medium rain on a coarse road today and they actually held on until it got up to about 4 grand, I was impressed! They are only about 1000km old though so can't comment on longevity yet. Even the ATR SPort 2's were OK in the wet at 1000km, at least in a straight line.

Softer tyres like Invos are good on the front because fronts last longer and Invos give good braking and handling performance when a roo appears out of nowhere. You can put harder tyres on the rears if you need the kms (like I've done with the Michelins, I think they are 320 treadwear as vs 260 for the Invos in my size).

I'm thinking the real characteristic of "good" tyres is how well they manage to maintain high levels of performance as they wear out. The Invos are proven in my experience. Also my front Invos that went on at the same time have seen about 20,000km at 40PSI and still look decent. If you buy them from Taleb they are about $220 delivered in 245/40/18 so pretty cheap and make great front tyres. They take corners very well even at low grip levels, I had one pair before this set of 4.

Which reminds me, at that stage I didn't find them to be that great on the REAR of the car, but that was on tired stock suspension (also 235/45/17 incidentally) . I swapped them to the fronts and loved them on corners! I drive the same roads as you from time to time (used to live in the Mundaring area and commute to Ossie Park, drove to Northam and back today) and highly recommend aftermarket suspension for increased road holding. I have Koni Reds and King Springs ($1200, fit myself) which have been great, but if I was buying again I'd go the $2,000 Shockworks adjustable kit, you should have a read about them (ex FPV suspension engineer designed them).

Yep, Phildo on here is taken so I'm PhilMeUp instead. I'm Phildo everywhere else.

I paid $160 each/$640 for 4 tyres for the Federal AZ01 in 235/40R18 size.

Dunno how many km I got out of the last lot, put them on back in March so roughly 40-50,000km.

You need to swing by here some time and check out my latest FPV ute. Previous owner spent nine grand on engine stuff. Holy sh*t, that thing takes off when it hits 3,000rpm.
