As HSE2 says, the GT should go back to what made it the GT in the first place - cut the unnecessary stuff off it (make it lighter), sacrifice some comfort for out and out handling and give it some more torque.

The GT is the premier performance brand. Anything less than that does not deserve the GT badge!

The problem with that Plonky is that in the 60s and 70s when GTs first came out they were based on the Fairmont which didn't have all the electric gizmos and dodads that todays modern cars do. As you know a 'base model' XR has power steer, power windows, a/c, electric boot release, CD player and a host of other gizmos that people just accept as the norm these days and I don't reckon there would be that many people prepared to put up with a bare bones car without all this stuff. Maybe they could bring out a base model without a lot of this stuff for a really cheap price and just let everyone option it up up with whatever comforts and goodies they desire. I can't see it happening though, probably slow the production line too much.

I understand that but the BMW M3CSL is a classic example of what can be done IF the manufacturer wants to retain the performance mantle of the brand.

The GT was built to be a car that, with simple modifications, could be raced on a track. I really don't think a current GT is in the same category. It (and I love the car) is still a luxo pose mobile that has an advantage over other Ford models but would find it very hard to compete against similar cars such as the (and I hate myself for saying this) the GTS Monaro, an M5 BMW, an E55, an XJR etc

Just because it's a Ford doesn't mean that it cannot compete on the performance and status stage

......after all what was Subaru before the WRX and STi. They were a quirky company that sold good reliable cars until the WRX came along and made the expensive performance cars such as Porsche, BMW, Jaguar and HSV stand up, take notice and work harder to make a better product.

Kinda agree plonky but I think you have to take into account the fact that the Government have made many more rules and restrictions since the late 60's, early 70's and the car manufacturers have to comply with these stricter standards if they want to get the cars in the showroom. Take the example if you could get the 290 Boss engine with the same amount of anti-pollution gear the XY GT had........wooo,hooo, but it aint gonna happen right?

I believe Ford and FPV have a product that can meet the expectations of their owners (with a few mods) and they still meet the Government standards, initially. You make the mod, if it takes the car outside the guidelines you get it back inside the guidelines, a luxury the manufacturer has not got. Also the cars have to be competitive in pricing and the manufacturer has to make a profit.........all givens, how many units have Expensive Daewoo sold of the GTS???.

So, having said that, for the price of todays performance cars you are getting a much better deal (bang for buck) than you did 30 years ago.

FFA suit has just been fitted with air conditioning! :hiwelcome:

F6 = 280 kws.

Basically, power wise I could have one for the price of a stage 1 kit from my friendly after market supplier. Plus a little more for suspension and brakes upgrade.

I think I'll hang onto the one I've got Geoff.

Typhoon, about $62,000 on the road in basic trim.

The big difference I believe is that once FPV finish tricking up the machine

1. It will handle

2. It will stop

3. It will go better than the FMC standard T

4. Better resale value.

5. I HOPE POINTS, 1, 2, 3, 4, are correct. Who knows they might even throw in a Watch, a Keyring, and a performance driving course :idunno::smilielol::smilielol:

;)

Plonky, any car that will pull 245 kph in 4th gear at 4800rpm, is not simply a luxo pose mobile. And if you compare a drive in the BA GT with any of its predecessors, well if you drive one then you'll understand.

300kw Monaro uh uh (been there done that), unless your talking about the con job ones wuth the wishful thinking 427s they ran at the Bathurst 24hour. And if the Monaro is such a good car why has the resale gone to crap, and why are new Monaros sales 54% down on projected figures when the market is climbing?

The T is a slightly quicker car off the mark than the GT, and an APS stage 1 T will hammer a 300kW Monaro and a BA GT to 180kph. But hit that open road where the real purpose of the GT can be experienced and there is truly no contest, you find that out at the first corner, at the second corner, and every corner after that, oh and also when you have to stop (which the Monaro is exceptional at doing). But you can't call a 290 kW touring car capable of at least 265 kph a luxo pose mobile, after all its not our fault if everybody looks. :idunno::smilielol::thumbsup:

And the price plonky, don't forget the price. The beamers, the Jags, and the 300kW GTS for that matter should be a better car than the GT for what they cost.
