Is Fpv T (typhoon) Value For Money?

OK, from what we've heard so far a FPV T (I prefer this name to Typhoon) will be around $10K dearer and 40kw more than standard T. If you consider it totally on a power basis you can get APS Phase 1 with similar maybe more power for around $1700. OK, the FPV T comes with 18s, these are a $1500 option on regular T. FPV T has GT style body kit, big deal I say. Looks good sure but not worth extra $6K or so. No six speed boxes. So what do others think, is it worth the money?

Also, what's it going to do to XR8 sales? Kill them I reckon.

Well its a FPV model. That should count for something. IMO it may have better resale value.

Its a bit like a HSV. Are they worth the extra cost when you could just add some go faster bits to an SS

like say an oil drip pan......

Which pending on full details of upgrades, eg:

bigger better intercooler

brakes

suspension

18's

bodykit

driveline,gearbox and diff

If it can cover most of these items or all its got my vote.....

Plus getting a warranty might be another......that got to be a plus

Yes, I forgot about the intercooler. I wonder what brakes it will have, Premiums with Brembo option like it's FPV brothers? Wonder too about gearbox whether they will somehow strengthen/improve T5 or adapt XR8 box or go for something completely different

Hoon, it depends on your priorities.

The FPV model will have full warranty and no insurance hassles and possibly better resale. For sure it will have Premium brakes, 5x18's, side airbags, alarm, bodykit, better interior and bigger intercooler for more consistent performance. Possibly a better gearbox, maybe even one that's exclusive to FPV.

l reckon its worth 10 grand, but l agree it does roger the XR8.

I can see the value in the FPV T if it comes out @ the reported 55k but I think it will be closer to 65k by the time you drive it out the showroom floor

Don't forget you won't be able to get it till the end of the year What will you get then for your current T

With the change from not updating probably bigger brakes,any of the Stage 3 kits going around and plenty of change for new gearboxes,diffs and short motors

Then again if the FPV T has a six speed gearbox I will probably upgrade

which is fine if you only want 280kw, otherwise you're still screwed!

As for insurance, I've got APS mods, suspension, wheels etc and my insurance co (AAMI) said fine as long as I tell them what I have so it can be put on my policy.

I reckon it'd only be worth it if it's the only T with a stronger box.

Even if the FPV T were priced the same as a current XR8, I would still purchase the XR8. I don't care if a cheaper 6 Turbo puts out 300kw from factory, the 8 is what I want, and the 8 is what I'll get. The people that want an 8 will still buy one, they are different cars.

I think the gearbox is the big issue. If the F6 (such a goofy name in my oppinion. Should have been T6, anyway...) has a beefed up 6 speed then it will be worth it. Other than that, anyone can buy a cheaper XRT and get better aftermarket brakes, wheels, suspension (well, maybe not better suspension) than the F6 and still have change left over.

Then, for those that are into bodykits etc, they can actually individualise the exterior and interior of their XRT without looking like every other FPV. Assuming you don't want your warranty and are planning on going mod crazy, there are really only two things that I can see which are an advantage of the F6. Better manual (IF it gets one) and the Prestige ICC with climate control like the Fairmont (IF it gets one). Other than that, I think your better off getting the XRT and doing that up. Sure, you can put a 6 speed in the XRT but then your talking big bickies and I assume the same of the prestige ICC (who cares that much about climate control anyway?).
