Hi. Ba xr6t sedan 4speed auto.

Last couple weeks I have noticed that when giving it a bit ( stock 6psi) and backing off ..if I back of quickly the whole car thups/jolts and sometimes its pretty dam bad. Feels like its comming from gearbox. The center bearing is split but surely that would be a thump not jolt/ thump/ whole car thumps which makes everything in car jolt including myself and passenger.

Could be me but seems like it does it more when cars cold....now it has done it in past but seems to be doing it more often. So could gearbox do this? Cause if it can I'm suprised it didn't break anything

Hahaha saw that on FB yesterday, worth a giggle.

OP, I've had the same bang noise in my ZF for a long long time, I think it's the entire driveline having that overall slack in it. It was mostly better after I recently got new tailshaft centre bearing/Uni and mount to gearbox but came back again soon after. My car has over 275,000km on it, I drive it hard often. Diff is surely worn as well.

Also, try to avoid giving it WOT and then stepping off the go pedal, some theories around that it can contribute to the timing chain skipping teeth (not to mention the massive bang)

Thanks for all helpvsnd suggestions. The diff is nice ant tight. Has been recoed. The tail shaft however does need attention. The center bearing is almost split the whole was round and the CV joint to diff does have some play. One thing I have noticed is seems to have a very rough idle at lights recently so maybe a engin monunt has torn...or gearbox mount.......hopefully not a timeing problem.....could I check with forscan?? If its skipped?? Although seems too be idling at 700 rpm....normally 750 rpm

If it's an engine mount follow my advice and just get a genuine one put in, don't go aftermarket, if they fail soon after you put them in it's a royal PITA, I had one die twice and finally opted for normal again. Turbo side exhaust leak possibly killing it mind you.
